RTV900 xt purchase question

I think most folks have either the metal or plastic canopy($200 or so for plastic) From photos and posts I would say that 75% of folks also have windshields which can be fairly cheap to high dollar. The cheap plexiglass wont last long before they get so scratched up that you cant see thru them in a sun glare situation. The glass windshield wont scratch up but are about $800 and will shatter if struck by a rock as one member here found out the hard way. So if you transport your RTV on a trailer, put it on backward or put up something to protect the windshield if you trailer it. Hopefully your rear screen will deflect any rocks thrown from your tire or passing auto if you have a rear screen.

Regarding plexiglass windshields: many folks dont know this, but you should never use any cleaner with ammonia in it on plexiglass. It will craze it with tinny small cracks and also turn it yellow over time. Use water only or dishwashing soap if greasy.

You can also use Prist or plexus, these products we use on all of our aircraft windscreens.

Why/How would plexiglas that sits in a garage and is never driven in the woods get scratched up?

If you clean the dust off it with a dry rag it will scratch ust like plastic polycarbonate eyeglasses and they are a harder plastic. You can get fine scratches in it even washing with water if you rub it with a cloth. THey may only be visible in a glare but the sure limit your visibility when they show up. My brother in laws Gator is 2 years old and is so scratched up that you can barely see out of it when facing into the sun.
For the difference in price for glass windshield ($880), you can replace the plexiglass or even Lexan several times, but the glass is nice to have and not worry to much about scratches.

Well, I purchased the used one and have had it about a week now. My son and I have been having a blast getting firewood in the bush. I am thrilled with the 900 so far.

We discovered that we will want a roof, snow and rain are a discomfort.

We also are waiting for the bracket to install a winch. He purchased a super winch. I have not been able to find a lot of photos of winch installs, I assume you would take off the brush guard when installing it and try to fit the winch into the cavity? Also, where have you guys mounted the remote plug? Do you also mount the switch or just use the remote?

Finally, what do you like for a roof? I see the Kubota steel roof is about $100 more than the plastic. Any real advantage to either?

Thanks in advance

I went with an easy-on and easy-off courdra top ($75) and vinyl windshield
($10) & I made a cargo-net out of parachute cord for my RTV 500.

I remove the top and windshield on sunny days and for highway travel in the trailer to deer camp etc.

On the winch; I let the dealership install it but their power source to supply
to the relay kept popping the 5 amp fuse in the bus tray. I chose another location that carries the amps much better. Kubota mounted the remote switch right of the steering column under the dash.

If you have a WARN, I find the factory in Clackamas Oregon very helpful; tough-love advice but very helpful as some of the winch components are real pricy

Agreed..My RTV500 had a glass upper 3/4 and a poly lower...After 1 year the lower poly piece was scratched beyond belief. I pay the premium for tempered glass. Plastic just doesn't last.

My rear "glass" was poly and anytime someone even touched it, there was a scratch. A $300 ripoff. If Kubota would have had a $500 glass rear window, I'd have paid for it.

I am asking for pro's or con's on the RTV900XT if anyone has one? I am looking to trade up to it.

Just got the 900rtvxts this week it looks great. I hooked up a trailer with about 750lbs of dirt bags. It pulled up and down a dirt path that has a 30+ percent grade. It felt very safe going down the hill.
