Kubota L245DT
I have a L245DT with 550 hours on it. While moving a load of firewood last week I noticed that the oil light was lit and stayed lit. I changed the oil and filter. Light stayed lit. I then changed the oil pressure sending switch. The light still stays light. I did notice a small oil leak behind the alternator. Not sure what else this could be. Overall tractor is running fine.

Any suggestions????

Thanks, Tractorbill:confused:

Normally if the oil light comes on, it means 'low oil pressure' and the engine should be shut down immediately.

Since you've changed the sending unit, and changed oil and filter.........and the light is still on............the next thing is to put a gauge in there to check the actual oil pressure.

I would suggest not running the tractor until this is done..........low oil pressure can lock your engine up.

Don,

Thanks for your advise. What I don't know is what size the threads are when the sending unit goes. I do now it is metric.

I haven't purchased one recently, but the last time I got one at the auto parts store, it came with 6 or 7 different fittings...........one of them will probably work for you.

1/8" npt fitting will work for your pressure reading. However it could be a grounded out sending wire. Check for that too with a continuity probe or meter

I agree with above. Most "idiot Lights" use a switch type pressure sending unit... They turn on at say less then 10psi and off at anything above.

Disconnect the wire that goes to the sender, turn on the key if the idiot light is on there is probably a shorted wire. (Mouse chewed coating possibly)

Engine off, wire disconnected at the sender, Put a test light from the battery positive to sender connection the test light should go on. because there is no oil pressure, Start the engine. The test light should go off.

If the light does not change shut off the engine quick and get a pressure gauge.

If the test light works correctly then you are building pressure and for now in my opinion would be safe to run the engine. Check the rest of the idiot light circuit

Does the sensor have 2 wires? If so and you have a multimeter you can just unplug it and measure conductivity between the to wires on the sensor. First with the engine off and then with it on. On the most basic systems the sensor will read a short between the wires with the engine off and then start the engine, once the pressure reaches it's preset point it will read open.

Same thing happened to me a short while back. Since the warranty is still going had JD tech look her over. Found where the wire had rubbed on a steering component and caused a short. As said earlier, I also bet it is a wire.
