Tires Front Wheel Frozen on Ford 1310 (4WD)

Thanks,

I have an I&T manual but it doesn't talk about lubricants. I guess I need to find something that conforms to the 134A spec. I assume you羆*e saying that's the same stuff I'd use in the rear hydraulic transmission case too.

BTW, I can't tell from the I&T drawing. Does each front wheel have a separate reservoir, or does the whole front transaxle fill and empty as one reservoir?

Dave

Ditto on "CPB Engineer" and what he said. I don't have a FWA assist to give you first hand knowledge. But it is very clear from diagrams on NH website and IT that there is a drain on bottom of the reduction gear case on each side. and there is a fill point on either side of axle pivot point. Two drain holes and two fill holes. The hyd oil in the diffy and front axle is the same type but front does not have a reservoir as the rest. You might look at the PDF I attached below.

Except for engine oil and air breather the 134C (C is newer spec) oil is the recommended oil. Alot of UTF oil claims to meet Ford 134C and should be OK if it states the claim on the container.

So, once I find something that conforms to the Ford 133 A (or C) spec that's what I use in both the front transaxle and the rear differential / gearbox / hydraulic reservoir. Right?

So, other than motor oil and copious amounts of grease on all my zerk fittings, those are pretty much the only lubricants I will have to worry about for normal maintenance? I'm not trying to pin you down, just getting things straight for future reference.

I went and found my owners manual for the 1700 (slightly older & bigger but similar). It does not show the m2c134d (full spec name). 80W gear oil with anti-foam below 86F and 90w or 140W above 86F. The I&T manual does show the final gear reduction cases at each wheel separate from the main drive axle.
.23 quarts in the gear reduction cases and 2.5 quart for the main axle.
Sorry about the wrong oil in the front!!

Ditto on what Mostl Gas said.Sorry for incorrect info. The summary sheet was not as clear. Pleas look at the pdf below.

I'm not sure I follow. Gear oil in the front axle. Then M2C-134D in the transmission/hydraulic (rear)

The rear axle, hydraulics and transmission are one sump and you use the M2C-134A or newer.

A number of UTF fluids say they meet the C revision which is newer than the A rev that is referenced in my owner's manual.

I drained all three reservoirs this weekend. The Right side dumped about 1/2 cup oil with about 1 cup of water. I 'm not sure that's the right proportion. :D But, it certainly explains the freezing.

What concerns me was there were only about two table spoons of oil in the differential. It didn't really look like there were any leaks. I know the tractor was overloaded at some point and broke the frame. I wonder if the fluid was drained then never replaced. I refilled all of the reservoirs and haven稚 see a drop of oil a few a hours after refilling... err I mean filling them.

I can see that there was seepage around the vertical pivot point on the RF wheel. I've ordered a seal Kit for that.

Has anyone replaced one of those seals? I have an I&T manual but some practical advice would go a long way. I assume once I see what all comes in the kit, l'll have a better idea how best to get into it.

Got her done. Piece of cake. I ended up replacing the bearing just below the seal. It took some major hits. the other bearigns seemed to be okay so I didnt invite more trouble.

Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear you are back in business.

What does it mean "It took some major hits" ??
