I'm seriously considering an MX5100 HST.

Anyone who has one of these - has the size ever been an issue as far as maneuvering around driveways while plowing, or getting into run in sheds? Kind of like my pickup. Love the rig, but maneuvering it around tight parking lots can be a nightmare.

Thanks

Also, called Kubota. There is no shuttle shift on a geared 5100. You have to shift from forward to reverse while clutching. HST seems mandatory for loader work on this unit. You need to move up to a larger MX to get a shuttle.

Comparing the L4400 to the L4240 (GL series):

Implement hyd pump: 7.8 vs 9.8 GPM
3PH lift (24"): 2310 vs 2760 lbs
width: 62.4 vs 66.5 in
weight: 3307 vs 3671
Max loader lift: 1546 vs 1878

So it's a more powerful and bigger, heavier tractor (GL) compared to the L4400. And you can get a stronger loader for it. This is what you pay more for, the rest of it is just icing on the cake (nice icing, though--the two speed HST and the telescoping arms on the 3ph are really handy to me).

bigbull338 and a few others have the MX5100 and are very happy with them. They are very nice units, I just didn't have a niche for one and needed cab units.

Yep x2. I am glad I have the unit I do. Went in thinking L3400. decided on the Grand L and then with loader being larger on the 4240, well there you are.

You have to wonder if tractor shoppers sometimes get sidetracked a bit with the name "Grand". They get caught up with the cupholders and armrests while not noticing the heavier build and increased capabilities. There is a bit of pretentiousness in calling something "Grand" (Anybody remember the Pontiac Grand Prix? Dodge Grand Caravan? Can't think of too many more). Maybe it was a product naming decision that didn't translate exactly as planned from Japanese to English. Anybody for the Maxi L or the Magnum L or... ? :)

I own one, by the way... great tractor, whatever they call it.

If you do much loader work it won't take take long to see that the Auto-Throttle
and Stall Guard are worth every penny. One hand on the steering wheel and one
on the loader joystick and you don't ever have worry about having to take one hand
off anything and give it more throttle. They're not just frills they're conveniences
that my wife and son love. You couldn't pry our L3940 away from my wife or son.

I've owned a BX22, L2800 HST, GL3540 HST-1 and now a GL3940 HSTC-3. Felt the same way initially about not needing the bells and whistles. Bottom line for me is the bells and whistles are nice but they are heavier and sturdier tractors that will handle more work and weight. You can move a one ton pallet of pellets or bio-bricks with the 3pt hitch on a Grand L. You can't with the L2800, L3400, L3200 or L3800. You can with the L4400 but it still several hundred pounds less than a comparable GL. I wanted a cab as others have stated for this last go around. The 3pt specs are higher on the GL series than on the MX4700/5100 also. They are very stout and powerful for their size in addition to being very easy to operate. There is much more than window dressings to these tractors.

Weights:

MX5100HST - 3774 lbs
4400 - 3307 lbs
4240 - 3671 lbs
4740 - 4001 lbs
3800 - 2668 lbs
5240 - 3902 lbs

Anyone have any idea where the extra 300 pounds lies between a 4400 and a 4240? Put a chubby guy in the seat, and you've evened up the score! :)
