To paint or not to paint garage/workshop walls

I have built a few shops in my day, my new one is 50x30 with a 20 ft roof, steel building, I am planing on painting the walls it gives you the ability to wash the walls if ever needed. You use a lot less light, to see what you are doing without extra expense. I even painted my benches white.

when I bought my place back in 1981, the garage walls were just unpainted drywall and the roof was unpainted plywood. Very drab and dingy looking. I painted it all an oil based gloss white before I started to put up any shelves, etc and it improved the looks of it 200%! I would definitely advise you to paint it. Worst thing you can do inside a garage is weld! The fumes collect on everything and give it a rust brown look and seem to just soak up the light.

I'd paint it for the light effects, but OSB is a paint sponge. You'll probably need to a good primer and a finish coat to get it to look decent. I'm in the process of redoing a pole barn and I've decided to use interior metal panels. I looked at the cost of OSB and the hassle of painting it and decided the metal wasn't much more expensive.

You are right about OSB being a sponge. The last project I did with OSB I used all the left over paint around the house then top coated with the chosen paint. Gave me a chance to get rid of several partial cans of old paint.

You might also consider finding left over paints (maybe a painter)(or dump) I take a 5 gallon and mix all the latex together, and oil in another and hope for a good color.
but its sure cheap and seals it fine.Makes a good primer coat ..
