Hi All, I am new to tractors, planning on buying some land, about 10-15 acres, and so I will be getting a tractor to care for it. I plan on mowing, plowing snow, in Maine, and plowing for a large garden.

I was looking at the JD 2320 24 HP, Kubota B2920 or B3300, and New Holland 1025. I am open to other suggestions. I want a loader, mower, plow, tiller, and auger for it.

What will be the most important thing for me to consider? Will the JD be lacking in HP in comparison to the 33 HP Kubota? Or is 24 HP enough and not that big a deal? I just want a good machine to do the work I need to do and last a good while with not many problems. Any advice is welcome, as this is quite an investment for me!!

Thanks, Brad

:welcome:

Pick a dealer first, tractor second. IMO

And hp is hp. 33 is more than 24, and the 24 hp will be lacking. Weight of the tractor is also important if you are adding a plow.

Too many unknowns to help much better than that. I wouldn't rush the tractor purchase until after you have the land. You mention "work you need to do" but no land?

When you say mowing is that brush hog type or finish mowing?

I figure both, finish for lawn and bush hog some field.

The higher hp machine might be the way to go. With that much acreage you may want to consider an even larger tractor, say 35-40 hp.

Thanks for the responses! Are there any particular brands and models I should look at? Is Mahindra or Kiote any good? I live in PA now and there are a lot of New Hollands around.

Thanks

I look for a combination of a good tractor AND a good dealer. Some brands don't have good dealer networks in my area, so I don't really consider them.

There is a good thread on here telling who makes what as NH and some Case models are the same and of course Kioti/Bobcat, so you can balance dealer and tractor even if it is a different color.

My preference is Kubota, but all of them are good and I don't subscribe to a "best" brand.

Good luck.

Yep, buy the land first...then you can evaluate your needs. What happens if you (or your wife) hate Maine (or the Maine winters?). Then you're stuck with equipment you may not be able to sell.
