This is both embarrassing and annoying.... I pulled up to the front of my house to move a bush damaged by heavy snow last winter. Tractor warmed up and ran fine. I just shut it off for 5 minutes while I was digging out the damaged plant with a shovel. I got back on, and the tractor would not start.... the battery is fine, all the lights come on, but the starter won't turn over. I checked all the fuses and I checked several times to make sure the tractor is not in gear (this is a non HST model). Gear models start in neutral when not in the seat. I even bypassed two switches under the seat (one is activated when you sit down - the other, I don't know yet what it´s for) to get it going but no luck! It is approximately 50 degrees outside and the tractor has plenty of fluids. Help!

95% of the time, its one of the safety switches. Put the ones under the seat back the way they were. Then check to make sure all of the levers are where they need to be to start...... range in 'N" , PTO off, etc. If that doesn't do it, try lightly tapping both front and rear hydrostat pedals to ensure it goes back to center.

Check and make sure the pto lever isn't engaged.

Thanks ....I checked every switch except the PTO lever.... It was engaged! That's a first for me.... Rookie mistake. Thanks for the suggestions.

Isn't it nice to discover it's only operator error and not
a **** electrical nightmare somewhere in the harness/switches :)
How many of us have not been able to remove the key from an
ignition because we've stopped the SUV whilst it was still
in drive ?

sounds like the big q is how did you engage your pto with out knowing it.

The most embarrasing thing is that the tractor was partially blocking the garage..... it would be real problem if my wife was unable to get to work because of this. Interstingly, my curious neighbor just happen to witness this unfortunate breakdown and he was sure to make a comment or two about the quality of today's tractors....

I can only speak for myself, but I can be a klutz. I hit the FEL lever with my knee when looking backward at the rear blade. Arrrrrgh! You hear the sound of your bucket dragging and know you've done it again.

I snag my sleeves, pants, jackets on levers and knobs.

Some of this stuff is indeed just our fault. Some of it is not placed in the greatest places, frankly, and add to that, the modern CUT has a heck of lot of levers. Add to that the **** safety switches connected to everything and well.... there's no more "big q". :D
