Finally had a nice weekend to get the invisible dog fence in the ground and installed 3200' of wire around 10 acres.

My home made cable installer worked great consisting of a JD 3520, a subsoiler, piece of 1/2 pvc with a 90 degree elbow and some duct tape. Only places I had issues were close to trees when I was getting into the roots which messed up the turf or they were just too big to pull through and had to manually bury wire in few spots.

Good setup.
I would have made at least one initial pass to find the roots (and rocks in my case) before making the final pass with the wire.

Sounds interesting! Could you post a closer picture of your design?

Good idea. I had about 8 acres fenced in at one time, now down to about 1.5 acres. I just bought new wire to redo the 1.5 acres as it is about 16 years old and is starting to have issues. 14g THHN at Home Depot $50.00 per roll.:(

I did something similar to pull sprinkle lines. I welded a chain to it with a steel 1" female cap. Then you can buy the steel 1" to various flex line sizes to connect the pipe with clamps. I also welded a steel pipe to it and hung 45lb plates on it for down force. You can add what you need for your soil type and if will still lift up if you hit a rock. Worked great.

All of these ideas are great, but it would be nice to see pictures of your digger with the lay down attachment.

I did not know you could run a dog fence that long. Can you tell me a little something about what kind you have and the type of wire your are using. I have a large dog that I need to confine. He is running all over the place at this time. We love him and don't want anything to happen.

Thanks Mickey

I heard there is a gps based system out that you program the border and requires no wire. I haven't investigated since I don't need it and my wire is already buried. Just a thought.
Also a gas powered edge with 2-3 blades on works good. That's how I did mine..

I made a plow for my 2210 and installed my dog fence. Basically a light weight subsoiler with a feed tube. Built from scrap I had laying around.

A word of caution: #14THHN is inside building wire. It is not aproved for wet locations or direct burial. I thought about using it but I was afraid it would break down over time and the signal would degrade. I went with the spools of factory wire. It has a water proof insulation. Tracer wire used for plastic gas lines would be a good alternative if you needed the larger wire size for longer runs, but it is expensive. You might be ok with THHN but I have seen it fail in underground wet conduit locations. If you can find some THWN it would last longer but you'll pay for the better insulation.
