No, sorry. Sometimes too much information is not good for people.

Unlike myself, my wife was a little sad watching the camper leave. That surprised me because living in the camper was much more of a sacrifice for her than it was for me. After all, most guys can be happy living under a bridge. My wife was a little nostalgic. After all, we spent half our married lives in that camper. Our daughter spend most of her first year of life in the camper. We did have some good times in it. And living in it had some real plusses for a guy. Compared to owning a house, the maintenance was much less time consuming, especially when we lived in a campground and didn't to mow the grass.

Obed -

Congrats on selling the camper! You still have the memories and pictures to remind you of the times spent in it. And it must've been a good feeling watching the taillights head down the driveway!

Obed,

There is a place here in Alabama called Akins Furniture. They are better know around here as Dogtown. They are a furniture "warehouse". They are very cheap compared to other furniture stores. They can get pretty much any brand: Ashley, Broyhill, etc... You just find the items you want and call them. They also have hundreds of items in stock in there warehouses that you can go and look at.

They are located in Fort Payne which is about 150 miles from Clinton Tn. Look at their website. They will order any item from any manufacturer.

Here is a link: Akins Furniture | Ft. Payne AL furniture Store

With the house plans completed, in Sept. we asked 3 contractors for bids. Two of the contractors were licensed general contractors and one was a framer who will do more than just framing. The bids from the 2 general contractors made me fall off my seat. Their quotes would make the house cost about 40 - 50% more than what it could sell for when finished. There was no way we could do that. So my wife and I are now the general contractor. We hired the framer I mentioned above to do the framing and help us do some other stuff that we don't know how to do.

So now that you are mostly done, do the quotes from the GC's still seem high?

Mike,
That's a great question. We have not yet totalled the final costs yet. I am curious how we compared to the GC's bids. We still have to finish the back porch and the excavation/grading work. We will total it all up; we just haven't done it yet.

Thanks everyone for helping me celebrate selling the camper. Having it gone sure changes how the property looks when I go out of the garage. It looks much better being able to see the trees and hillside on the other side of where the camper sat. I'm really looking forward to how that area will look once the storage trailer is gone.

Yesterday someone looked at the storage trailer and made an offer. He was a little low so I told him no. Somebody else is scheduled to look at it tomorrow. This guy is driving 4 hours from Alabama to see the trailer. From what I'm gathering, trailers 28 feet long are much harder to find than the 20 foot and 24 foot models so people are calling me from out of state. The fact that the trailer is 28 feet long seems to make it stand out some from most of the available trailers for sale and is causing some interest. I talked to someone else today who wants to look at the trailer but cannot do it until Saturday. He asked me to call him Friday if the trailer is still available.
