Our neighborhood tractor attachment coop (all three of us) are looking to buy a well built and reliable PTO driven digger. We've ruled out hydraulic units (one of our members does not have a third function remote and doesn't plan on installing one).

So.....we'd like to hear opinions on the best units out there, and matched to our three machines, which are a NH TC-35, a NH TC-30 and a JD 4300 (32 hp).

As always, your replies are greatly appreciated!

I have a 4200 John Deere. I bought the J.D. Auger shortly after. About 12 years ago and have used it quite a bit. I sheared a few shear bolts off at first cause I didn't know how to run it. After I learned to cut down on the RPMs and go easy, I haven't sheared one since. I really like it. No problems at all. Very well built. I recommend it.

My Speeco has held up drilling over 500 holes in all kinds of soils. I have sheared a LOT of shear pins but the gear case is still kicking without a bit of trouble. I use 9 and 12 inch augers..

My Lienbach L7300 is pretty much a price leader model but it is well built and has performed well digging more than 300 holes with no mechanical issues. The only thing I don't like is the relatively straight boom which has very little clearance for the PTO shaft guard on the gearbox.

Danuser does indeed look to be a very good unit. But I believe that there are many others that are equal. The lower dollar models I have no idea, but the upper end models look to be pretty good with about any of the makes. Can someone tell us what specific thing that makes you feel that Danuser is the best?

The gerabox is 3 times as big on these older models plus, the shear weight of the HD construction helps in digging the hole. I saw a 12 incher dig through a 3-5 inch aspault highway. No problem! The also hold their value batter than any digger. We have a used one now for $895. Probably more than it sold for new. I have seen the older units bring $1200 at auction. Ken Sweet
