Thought I'd start this thread as a reference for those who might be thinking about this. First let me state the obvious, it's expensive! At least for me. I just got back from the dealership with a nice $1954 bill.

I'd recommend getting this done when you're making your deal. I believe you could save quite a bit. As I understand it, they had to remove the loader, right hand main frame, sub frame, right hand rear tire (Filled) then install the kit. Then of course put everything back together. Here's the breakdown...

Third Function Kit w/freight and tax. $1023.62. Labor was $636.00 Pick up and drop off $159.00. The rest was misc. Grand total $1953.14...

The tractor is still at the dealership so I don't have photos just yet. I did look it over and it does look very professional. Mostly steel lines 90% or so and the couplers are mounted on the boom close to the bucket

I may or may not be crazy, you be the judge

Detailed photos to follow:

Did you get just one or did you get two extra valves?

I had two sets of rear remotes on the tractor already. This is the 3rd function valve (two lines) that gets operated from the joystick.

Was this a WR Long third function kit for running something from the loader?

Here's the Kubota 3rd function valve & connections on my L4240. The dealer installed it before delivery last year. It works great, no problems so far.

when i was trying to make a deal on a Kubots cab tractor a few months back, the quote for the 3rd valve was $1,200 as best as i can remember. plus they wanted 1,300 for 2 rear ports.

he stated the obvious alternative,...add 2 hoses from rear port to set of quick connects on front of loader, and save about $900 off of combined totals.

Just bought a L5740 HTSC (hasn't been delivered yet) and the option was about $850. Always a little less up front. I learned that after I bought my L4330.

What's the white button on the lever? I thought someone had said it was a second valve. Is that box with the "no step" on the side of your tractor for the quick disconnects?

The white button turns the two joystick buttons (and the front hydraulics) on and off. The box on the side is for the valve. Metal lines run to the front of the loader where the disconnects are located. I have this setup on my tractor and its nice (but expensive).

Make sure the joystick is adjusted so that the seat can flip up without hitting the joystick. Mine was turned in too far and it was hard to flip the seat up to run the pto without moving the FEL. Its a quick fix with a 19 mm wrench.

Dan, looks like an across the board hike. Also looks like your dealer likes you!

Thanks for posting the pricing info. I think this is a sign of where things are headed :(

I have the same setup on my 3940. Shopping grapples at the moment and looking forward to trying it out.

I like the Kubota steel lines on the FEL. Is it just a kit that comes with all the parts or do they break down on the parts needed? I would love to see a list of all the parts.

I looked at my installation manual for the third function....I would bet that it comes in kit form.Being an old retired pipefitter that has done some tube bending;I wouldn't think they would expect every tractor mechanic to be proficient in tube bending. It is quite a process, the rear tire has to be removed and the FEL supports(on one side),about six hours labor.

I think JimP answered but there is also another pair of disconnects over the FEL disconnects to allow loader removal. They are the top ones with the white dust caps.

I can attest to the amount of work that's necessary. I bought the kit for $818 plus $35 shipping. In order to do the install on my L5240, I had to do the following (most of which was outlined in the Kubota instructions):

1. Remove the loader and hydraulic fluid.

2. Remove the loader mainframe on the right side. I did not have to remove the subframe as the instructions indicated.

3. Remove the right rear fender. I did not have to remove the rear wheel as the instructions indicated. This may have been because my wheels are set wide.

4. Remove right steering linkage.

5. Remove right brake lever.

6. Remove two steel hydraulic lines. One of these - referred to as the third inlet tube - was tough to get out. You can cut it out, but I found after some time that the trick is to have someone step on the brake to make just enough room to slip it out.

7. Install a couple of tubes and hoses - no bending necessary, but I had to remove the hydraulic fluid filter to get both hoses routed.

8. Install the hose coupler.

9. Put the mainframe back on and attach the valve/solenoid to it. Then, connect the valve/solenoid to the coupler.

10. Remove the old lever.

11. Install the new lever.

12. Hook up electrical connections. The pushbutton switch on my lever is bad (it was shipped broken), so I'm just replacing the switch, rather than the whole lever.

13. Install tubes on loader boom.

This project was a collossal pain in the grass, but at the end of the day, a good experience for a novice tractor owner. I'd do it again.

Just think about using this option, having to go back and forth to clamp and curl....does not work, get the joystick electric remote it is worth it in what the tractor can do afterwards.

In this case I think I like the aftermarket W R Long valve is better than the Kubota, would be nice to use the Long valve and Kubota lines on the loader frame.

You have it on yours for what? You list everything you have, have sold and have ordered, what runs off of your rear remotes that you run lines to your loader bucket for?? To run a grapple or a 4 in 1 bucket I would not want to reach to a different location for closing or opening the implement. Joy stick is the only way to go for the front end.
