I used RVT on mine where the seal mates to the metal. Put some gear lube on the outter part (RUBBER) of the seal so, it isn't a dry fit

Thanks...not sure if I understand. Wouldn't you put RTV on both metal surfaces? and lay the gasket on top of the sealant? Mine does not have a rubber side - these are paper seals from Hoye...

I'm thinking of a rubber seal that you would drive into 1 surface & slide it onto another surface (metal). like a wheel bearing seal, etc

I got my front spindle seals and the knuckle seals. I was surprised how thin the front spindle seals are.....do I alos use some RTV or other sealant when reinstalling?

I use whatever gasket sticker I have handy and thats usually high tack and thats so it is lubricated going in the bore helps installation. The sticker hardens and helps hold it in, silicone will work fine also I usually try to let those dry a little longer to be safe.

I advise you to press the seal in rather than pound it in if you have to pound it watch for that spring falling out and be careful you don't dent the seal it will ruin it 98%-100% of the time.

I use the old seals set against the new seal to protect it a lot of times when I install new seals as pressing or something to tap on.

And as has been said grease the seal lips so they don't run dry if they are doing their job that will be that last lube they ever get.

I never put "sealer" on both sides of any gasket it tends to cause the gasket to squish out depending on how thick and material so on.

I use "gasket stickers" like high tack for holding a gasket but only on ONE side while I assemble it if I am upside down etc but if you don't need to hold it you are better off just installing it dry unless the castings are really poor condition and don't have enough surface area to properly seal.
