Stihl Gas and Oil Caps

/ Stihl Gas and Oil Caps #21
I have several pices of Stihl euipment and didn't have a real problem with the caps .... until last fall.

I was using my 600 blower and noticed I started to smell fuel. Sure enough the cap was not set right and the back of my shirt and pants were gas contaminated. Makes it a little hard to get into a leather seated truck and go home and not be naked. Man was I PO'd.

You were lucky not to be blistered from gas...Yes it is tough to go without underwear in jeans. Jy.

I have had some trouble getting the flip caps right from time to time.

I have not had a leg covered with oil or gas with the flip caps.

Why mess with them. Buy a Husqvarna I have five of them, keep your Oregon chain sharp and use a good quality bar and chain oil. Keep the chain out of the dirt and they cut forever.
For folks that do not know how to sharpen chain buy the new Oregon Powersharp bar and chain system as a retro fit. You will be really surprised. It make a sorry saw a good unit.

So are they making it for real chains now and not just 3/8LP trim saws :D

You must be a dealer, or salesman, or not have used the powersharp to say that. :D

I'll stick to conventional chain and sharpening techniques, even if I needed to get one sharpened on a grinder. ;)

Only if I were using a chainsaw as a fireman or demolishing a building with a chainsaw, would I recommend the powersharp. Where concrete, steel, and rocks are likely to be encountered.
But admit they have their place.

I apologize for continuing the drag of this thread away from the subject. My bad too!

I don't own a Stihl but was looking through a catalog the other day. I noticed that they had 4 new chainsaw models listed and none of them had the flipy caps.

I have 2 BR600 blowers, an extended reach hedge trimmer, and a stick edger that all have the stihl flip cap. I use them commercially, and they are a PITA. The caps work good for a while, but I guess they become worn somehow, and then start to fail. I have replaced 3 of them, and one of the new ones has started to fail. This is the biggest disaster stihl has ever come out with... it has to be costing them customers. A previous poster says they have come out with a new cap as a fix for the older ones... I will have to check into that.
