question about duty cycle

/ question about duty cycle #21
The duty cycle is a bit more complex. The duty cycle is rated as so much time at X amps. If the weld current is more than X amps the duty cycle will be shorter. Some machines have charts or graphs showing the duty cycle vs current.

This duty cycle thread is very interesting to me. I've never hit the duty cycle in any machine I've run. I must have lead a very sheltered life. I do pay attention to the duty cycle when buying a machine, but never hit it, and I've run machines at 500 to 600-amps for 10 to 12-hours days for months at a time. Had to replace the Tweco fittings in the leads every morning, and still didn't hit the duty cycle!

lucky for me.. i do most of my welding near 90-100 amps or so.. and on my hobart stickmat xl 235ac.. 100a is 100% duty cycle.. :)

I do too now a days. But back when I had to make a living at it, it was how fast can you go.

Here is the machine I did most of that kind of welding with. I sold it in 1995, if I wasn't careful she'd blow a hole in 3/4 inch thick plate.
