A lawn tractor cuts lawns.
A garden tractor can cut lawns and can do some light ground engaging work.
A CUT can do heavier ground engaging work and has a PTO & Class 1 hitch.

Mine has been called a toy tractor, but I'm ok with it cause the same guy calls his Peterbuilt a big car.

I believe that Deere currently draws the line based on the 3PH. SCUT has a limited category 1, CUT has a full category 1. Anything with category 2 and up is an ag tractor.

I started this thread and will excuse you asking about the "chicken and the egg" thing as you are a newbie here...and exactly what does "mower" have to do with the distinction between GT and CUT?

categories are in following sequence
-lawn tractor, no three point hitch, no pto, cuts lawn only
-garden tractor, category zero three point hitch, may have pto, may have front end loader, may have a mid mower, may have a rear mower
-small utility tractor, most likely category one three point hitch, should have pto, may have front end loader, may have mid mower, could attach rear mower.
-then comes category two three point hitch, etc

Let me get this straight...you joined back in June of 2010, yet this is your first post? Welcome to TBN, and let me congratulate you on that. Too bad you didn;t join this discussion sooner as we could have used your input. I also started the same thread over on www.lawnmowerforum.com and on that site, as well as here, the issue opened a whole can of worms.
