I've heard of a technology-adept farmer who changed the engine mapping on something (believe it had green paint) somehow and blew it up. So it is possible to get more power by chipping it, but I'd be careful.

What you can do is increase the air going into the engine and increase the air going out of the engine.

Your air cleaner/ muffler mods. Will get you more power.............

But be careful to keep the air clean. Muffler mods, you can open things up a bit, again be careful. And you can add more fuel ,turn up the pump, with the other mods= more power.

With all that being said, I like to live within my means.

You can get way more power if you can stuff more air and more fuel to the engine. You can't increase fuel pressure with mechanical injection pump but you can increase the amount of fuel it injects per stroke by tweaking the speed governor allowing higher rpm. Tractor engines are designed to last "forever" at maximum design rpm. The MTBO (Mean Time Between Overhauls) will be proportionally shorter as the mean piston speed (RPM) increases.
If you have "Common rail" injection then you have to change the chip or computer that will allow you to change the mapping to achieve similar results.
But there is another issue: How to apply the power. To apply the power you need mass increase proportional to power increase. There are limits how much power and weight you can add to particular tractor frame before the things start twisting and breaking.

Well like I said I don't need more power, but I'm a gear head and enough is just not enough

nwltruck, I just picked up a used turbo & manifold for my cummins 4b, Now its a 4bt, :) $100.00, I should be able to get 20 more hp, twistin the screw , If i want more, the turbo injectors will be needed, Google RF Engine `maybe they have a used setup for your deere, :drink: Eric

Just joined but have been reading everyones threads for a long time. I bought a jd 3320 this spring and though I haven't needed more power I would like to know if it is posible to get more out of my little green machine.

Lots of diferent way to git mo out of her.

Deck the block, raises compression = mo power
mechanical injection is easy, there is an adjustment in the pump to raise fuel pressure/delivery = Mo Power

Turbo, bit O fabrication but you can get a bunch mo power

Propane, need a good regulator and a way to trigger when to introduce into the system.

mrkabotakid.... With a 4b(t) most of the after market parts for the Dodge trucks will work with your motor. Pistons, rods, injectors, "monster injectors".
I am subscribed to Deisel Power magazine and have read of guys getting 400HP and even 600 to 800HP out of the four banger!!!! Can't say I'd do that in a CUT but just sayin......

Yea I know, Lately, past 10 years or so, I get more excited about fuel millage than burning rubber showdowns, :laughing: Iam using my dream motor CUMMINS anything, to power my butt, and my buisness, I like dependable engines period, Then add 4 or 6 b/bt to that equasion, and Iam ready to rock:thumbsup:
