Is there a way to disconnect the seat safety switch on my 1643 or do I have to wire that plastic lever in a down position? I disconnected the wire under the seat but the tractor killed instantly when I put it into gear.

Just make a jumper wire and use it to replace the seat switch. Take your time and make a quality jumper that is relatively water-resistant and will not vibrate loose.

Those of us with MF SCUTs have to deal with this often when the weather's cold- seat gets too stiff to flex enough to trip our switches, so we use a jumper. Here's the one I made:

Thanks guys, but I'm not sure how it gets connected. Any pics of how/where to connect the jumper?

Haven't looked at mine, but they all usually just unplug, and on the tractor harness side, jump the pins in the connector, then your done.

Hi . I own a 1643 and what I did, I drilled a hole in the little plastic arm that swivel under the seat and took a wire ( I took a copper wire)that I rolled on the seat frame, lowered the plastic arm and fastened it lowered so the tractor think I'm sitting on the seat . So if someone else have to drive my tractor, I can activate the safety switch very easily in 5 seconds without any troubles.:D. Have a nice day. Roger

Wasn't cold the other night, but I think the switch in my seat wasn't making contact and it shut off a few times. The wierd thing was I had to turn key to off and start again to get it running. Not sure why that was.
Would something trip (assuming it isn't the seat switch) to cause this?

OK, I think I got it. The jumper that irvingj posted above would just connect into the tractor side harness and the other side does not plug into anything? I guess I was thinking the other side had to be plugged into something. All I really need is a jumper with one end?

roger4400-that was my other idea.

Yup. Ignore the end of the wire going into the seat. The wire coming up from the frame - fashion a jumper to connect each contact. The wire going into the seat is simply an on/off switch. Place your big *** on the seat and it presses a switch so the electronics think, 'yup, someones big *** is on the seat so it's ok to run'.
I suppose it serves a purpose for some. Me, mowing with the yard tractor I have to continually get off to move a stick, a Frisbee, a dog toy... with the woods tractor you have to jump off for a minute to adjust a chain, move a stick, move a gas can, whatever. I like to think I'm cognizant enough to know when I can just jump off for a second or when I should shut the tractor down.
It's always been my first move on riding machines to jump the seat switch.

Don't tell. ;)
