Some would say that the cause was actually created and funded by US, trying to get the Russians out of Afghanistan during the Cold War. The cause then turned on US, due to our policies in the Middle East. ***** was at odds with the ruling elite in Saudi Arabia. And today, as we are seeing it, people's voices are trying to be heard in that part of the world. So I guess if you fishbone it, eventually the US plays a part in the model of terror. Depending on what side of the religious belief one is in, your at odds with a lot of your leaders in that part of the world. So that also plays a part.

Communism was a decaying tooth. It had to be pulled out or rut in place. I think events in Eastern Europe had much more to do with demise of communism than Afghanistan. It is always a double edge sword.. it cuts both ways.

Don't know about that. Look at Hubert Hover, back in 1928-30. Hover sent food aid to Red Russia which ended up saving the Red Communists, he later recounts his screw-up in his writings. Look at the harm one man did.

Heck we were bankrupting the whole eastern bloc and Mother Russia too through our military-industrial complex.

BUT - we wanted (IMHO) - blood too. Some would say payback for Vietnam, so we built and supported people who would spill their blood to exact our plan.

Your point is well taken, but things are never black or whites and dynamics changes all the time. Do you think communism for the peasants and capitalism for the Communist Party Chiefs will work? That system is doomed to collapse as well.
