Tractor "almost" running hot

loose fan belt will cause it to run hot. but go ahead and wash the radiator out. and blow the air filter out. just too be sure.

I don't think a fan belt is the culprit. When you tighten, remember that some amount of give is required. Owners Manual normally has specifics.

If you don't think this loose belt could be the problem, please let me know.:ashamed:

Only one way to find out...tighten it up and see if it runs cooler...

Big difference between the required amount of deflection (the "give" you refer to and "very loose" as Belah described it in his post.

We'll see how it works when he tightens the belt...

I think I would check the brush hog also. It may have bad bearings, belts rubbing or some other type of resistance requireing additional power from your engine. One recent problem I had, I just redid my hydraulic connecting pieces welded a pin back to full size and the rod that fit over it to original size. I was losing power going up hills that were not a problem before. My hydraulics were whining and I had to reset my stops. I did not hear my hydraulic until I shut the brush hog off.

The fan belt was so loose that I could easily turn the fan by hand. I have since tightened it and will see today if that made a difference.

Hello friends on TBN. I have a question. I have a 1992 Kubota M4030SU that has never caused me any problems until this year. while bush hogging with a 6ft Woods cutter, the temp guage goes "almost" to Hot after about 11/2 hours of cutting. It never gets all the way to hot and never boils over even if I use it all day. I have flushed the radiator and replaced with new coolant. I have cleaned the radiator fins with a water sprayer and I have checked the air filter which was OK. I have changed oil and filter.

I have noticed whenever it gets near the hot zone on the guage, the engine idles rough. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not but it idles normally whenever the engine is cool.

Does anyone out there know what is causing my problem? Would you please give me some advice? Thank You in Advance !!!!!

You do have a fuel issue!!! I'd loosen the injectors till you find out which injector is not working right. YOu are getting the extra heat from lack of lubrication on a cylinder and the others being over worked. This condition could score a cylinder and be expensive to fix if you don't get it done now!!!!!

Although I am aware running lean could cause the engine to run hot, why would you think this is the case in this instance?

I suggest we see how tightening a "very loose" fan belt works before any disassembly. Anyway, determining if an injector isn't functioning correctly isn't a job for a typical home operator.

I would tighten the belts and wash out the radiator. I just cleaned my radiator on my L5030HTC today. The ac was not cooling as much as I thought it should. Used a can of air conditioner coil cleaner on the radiator and the ac core and you would be amazed at how much dirt and trash was pushed out by the foam action. I usually do this at least twice during the summer and it helps a lot, the engine runs at about the midpoint on the coolant guage.

Another likely culprit, is that if the water pump is original, the impellers can be eroded down to nothing.

Just a technical point, Roy.

Running lean will cause of spark ignition engine to run hot due to lack of charge cooling from fuel evaporation. That's because gas engines run at nearly constant fuel/air ratios (I'm sure this statement will cause some discussion about " ...nearly constant fuel air ratios"...) and are controlled by throttling the air flow.
But diesels run with a large variations in fuel/air ratio and the airflow is unthrottled. They are controlled by varying fuel flow directly so they're running "lean" except at full power.
