Here's a bucket question: Where I am, our muck is thick and heavy. 80% clay. Can a 7' hoe with 2800lbs breakout at the bucket and 2,000lbs on the dipperstick be able to dig to its capacity with a 16" bucket?

The only sure way to due this with a wide bucket
like yours and the heavy clay is to peel the dirt
away in layers as the bucket has a huge surface
area which increases the amount of resistance.

In any case with a small back hoe for any job it is
better to peel small layers of dirt away as you work
as the cylinders do not have stop tubes and the
upper boom, lower boom and dipper cylinders do
not have relief valves mounted on the cylinders
in most cases.

If you had a narrow trenching bucket you would be
better off as it will offer less resistance and create
less stress on the cylinders and lower boom.

A narrow trenching bucket will pack full of any type of dirt, other than shale. In other words, they are one of those good ideas that isn't. Good sharp bucket teeth are the answer.

look at the backhoe bucket closely, mine has a power dig setting, and also a truck loading setting.

I am able to fill my 12" bucket full with wet red clay....the problem is emptying the full bucket, the wet clay is sooooo sticky it doesn't empty very well.

An "Ejecto" bucket option would be worth
its wieght in gold wih sticky material but
you would lose about a half of its actual
volume and you would need one more spool
or an accumulator to store fluid energy on a
continuos basis with fluid flow using a regulating
valve to open and close the pusher plate
automatically with a level bucket.

:drool::thumbsup:
