Hello All! I just found this site not too long ago. I'm pretty much a city boy that has moved to the country to start a homestead and have some resources but I am clueless. Where can I learn about tractors? I have a Ford 3000 diesel and I know how to drive it and use the lift, but have no idea what to do if something were to go wrong. I get intimidated when people talk to me about stuff like, alternator this, starter that, bendix, hydraulic lines.... Where can I learn about all the workings of a tractor. Anyone have some good resources out there? To give you an idea of my level, i am not sure I know the difference between a starter and soelnoid, a disc or a plow...difference between gas a diesel, you get the picture. Complete beginner. I figure if I know how my tractor works and diagnose problems, that has to be the first step....right?

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some resources so I can get a start?

Thanks in advance,

Well, stick around here and I'm sure you can learn a thing or two :D

Feel free to ask *ANY* questions here. The easier the better  I have not seen anyone that was made fun of for not knowing something about tractors.

We come to ask and help each other...

Since you ask for help when needed you certainly aren't clueless. Read lots of posts on here and you will learn lots. :welcome:

As for the gas / diesel think they don't smell the same nor are they interchangeable LOL might want to figure that one out right away and never keep them in the same color jerry cans. Diesel is yellow, gas goes in red.

See you have learned something already.

Welcome to TBN

You'll find most anything here via searches, or assistance from the group. Happening across TBN recently myself, I can say it will become my tractor support group when in need!! Already helped me out with two items, and has provided unlimited capabilities to learn from some really good folks.

Welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Well, your tractor probably needs some routine maintenance like an oil&filter change, fuel filter, greasing. Pick one and learn how to do that. Then pick another. Then you will specific questions to ask - in the New Holland/Ford Owning&Operating thread.

Welcome.
Dave.
