Pellet air rifle suggestions?

That's sounds just like me. When I was 10 I had a Remington 514 single shot (still have it). I would go through 500 round bricks every week, sometimes in a weekend just patrolling the farm. Those were the days.

As stated it was what I did... back in the day there were some dumb ground hogs. and now back in the area we (my brother * I) hunted them for sport there were few left. I have not been back in the area in a long time but there was days when we went through 500 round bricks in a weekend of 22LR. apr thru jun there were days we took down a hundred hogs in new areas we walked RR tracks between towns 7+ miles down & back for the afternoon with single shot Remington bolt action open sites 100 yard shots (my brother) and I was better at sneaking up on them in old RR ties. We moved out next to a bar & used to bet the drunks on shooting black birds out of the plowed field behind the bar them using binoculars to see them and him shooting open sites 150+ yards. SO it might be YOU have never seen anyone do it but much of what we did few people will believe & I'm ok with it as I KNOW the truth. :D

I got a Gamo Whisperer .22cal from my local FFL - had to register with FOID card in IL for it vs ordering through Pyramid Air - good thing as I saved about 20% as my local gun shop could get a significant discount due to their volume (I'd suggest checking that out).

Break barrel, single pump and I've had great luck with it. Got it for target practice, and oddly to shoot at Carp in our lake - couldn't get close enough to them to net, spear, or otherwise cease their existence.. Tried normal fishing and while they are spawning nothing takes their attention... enter the .22cal pellet gun. While it does little damage unfortunately, it is fun practice and keeps them away for awhile, or gets them to the neighbor's shoreline ;)

Side note to improve accuracy, I highly suggest the Rifleman program put on by the Project Appleseed: Project Appleseed Home

Teaches you how to shoot a .22cal rifle (or other caliber) by the basics to the Rifleman standard. Great for kids, and family. Learn to shoot and about Revolutionary War history, patriotism... I've been at least 10 times trying to get the patch, and plan to start back up for the camaraderie once we get done with our house project. Excellent program for the family.

The marauder is unique in that it can use compressed air OR CO2. CO2 is typically 2000 psi, so the gun has to be adjusted to operate at this lower pressure.

Curious how that works...my understanding is that CO2 has a pressure of around 850 PSI. So how do they generate 2000 from it?

Ah, that was my original post. .22 is adequate for groundhogs. A BB gun is not.

"No way. A bb does not have sufficient mass to kill an 8 lb animal. A quick google produced this which is quite fitting "

A couple of oversights to correct; my apologies to ragkar. I didn't realize he had already posted a link to the airgun forum.

The Lewis and Clark air rifle was a 22 shot instead of a 20, I just found this out. Here is a video from the National Firearms Museum site telling about the Lewis and Clark air rifle YouTube - ‪Girandoni air rifle as used by Lewis and Clark. A National Firearms Museum Treasure Gun.‬‏. There are more videos showing a reconstruction by two historical gunsmiths of the air rifle.

I have no dog in this hunt but here is a quick Google search; Is it possible to kill a cat with a BB gun? - Yahoo! Answers

I had an RWS 34. Nice shooter.

After doing a bunch of research based on input from you folks, evaluating my needs/uses and taking a look at my checking account, here is the list of .22 caliber rifles I am considering.
Diana RWS 34P- $220.00
Gamo Silent Cat- $225.00
Benjamin Trail NP Hardwood- $230.00
The Benjamin is last on the list as I read in one review that it was made in China. They said the better Benjamin rifles are still made in the States.. but the less expensive ones were made in China and the quality is no longer there.

Ok so that's great for you. Lucky you can shoot whatever rifle you want in the backwoods that you live. But some of us live in nice neighborhoods where you can't fire a rifle, and these high end air rifles really come in handy. Whether or not the $550 is too much for you or whomever to afford, well that's up to each individual. I am just answering the OP's original question about what AIR RIFLE to buy. If what mine costs offends you, well I truly feel bad for you. Comment on what you have experience with and let others comment on the rest. Sorry to everyone else.

Gee, I missed this post earlier. My apologies. I was busy redoing the tar paper on my roof in the 'backwoods'. Not all of us get to live in such 'nice neighborhoods'. Some of us just have to scrape by.
I appreciate that you, 'truly feel bad for me'. I appreciate that. Apparently you missed the point. A fiendish red squirrel is going to be just as dead if shot with $32 crossman as a preppy '$550 high end air rifle'.
I'm glad you can afford such things. I can too. It's just that I know better.

I think you missed the point. The original op asked for suggestions for an air rifle and we were having a nice discussion and you came in and dissed them. I too thought your original post was a tad obnoxious.
