Underpinning a doublewide..Need help/suggestions

   / Underpinning a doublewide..Need help/suggestions #21
My inlaws live in a single wide and I used a bas of 4 x 4 posts pegged to the ground with re-bar pegs all the way around and then went to a supply house that makes the colored metal roofing and had it cut to length. I dug a trench just in front of the 4x4 base about 8" deep then mounted the roofing metal vertical all the way around the perimeter. It went up real well. It has bee in place for about 10 years and I expected the metal to rust off below grade over a few years. I was thinking about putting a new metal roof on my house and thought I would check how rust resistant it was and went to my inlaws and dug to the bottom of the metal and it looked as good as new. It has held up high winds and the weed trimmer doesn't faze it.

We have the rental next to us. It has the vinyl stuff and yep I've mess it up with the weedeater. About 3 years ago I replaced quite a few panels and need to do it again. I'm thinking of something heavier after reading this. The cement board would be nice, but I'm thinking it might be hard for me to cut. Have to ask hubby, the vinyl is real easy to cut, slip the old out, and pop the new one in. I like to keep it looking nice. Some good information, thanks.

Cement board can be scored and snapped like dry wall. But most of the time I cut it with a masonry blade in the Skill Saw.

If in direct contact with the ground, it would be good to at least seal the bottom as it will wick up water.

When you plan to stucco, its also good to put on expanded metal.

First picture shows first coat of stucco & next panel ready to stucco. 2nd Picture is part real rock wall and veneer rock over the wood rack. 3rd Is a veneer rock wall behind the stairs, real rock wall under the dick (Not completed.). The rock is all native stone, very few were cut or chipped to fit. When done all the rock and grout was sealed with concrete sealer.

A little more on plastic skirting as you can see in the pictures, much of it is gone. In this part of the world the sun eats it, then the wind blows it off.

With what is left I used as a backer to build a rock wall. Saves a little time waiting for mortar to set. On the front side of the house a brick wall is planed.

A free standing rock wall needs to be wider than the one in the pictures.

What ever you winde up doing, the low side needs to drain in case water gets under the house, leave at least 1 vent and an access panel will be needed.

A side note: All rock work, stairs, deck and stucco was done by me, without help. Back hoe on tractor was used to set the stairs, those suckers were heavy.

That is an excellent solution for mobilehome skirting. I located some damaged metal garage door panels (free) and installed them the same way that Dex did the roofing sheets. Weedeaters pose no problems. Heck, I even use a propane weedburner to "clean" the gravel every year, burning right up to the skirtiing. The worst that's happened is having to clean a little soot from the panels.

I live in a brush fire area so keep all flammable things away from the home, as is obvious. It may look stark, but it's more firesafe.

OOOPSSS Wrong picture. :D

Will try again.
This one should have been #3.

I think you missed my point. Not the pictures, i really did not read it that close for the content of the pics, although i did look at them and it looks good. I was pointing out the humor in the TYPO. Go back and read my first quote, closely!

Per Bird's recommendation 7 years ago, I poured a full slab and had cinder blocks installed then backfilled. I bought some cast metal grates each the size of 1 block and had the bricklayers put them in. They have a metal flap on a hinge that you can close off in wintertime or as needed.

It cost me quite a bit to do this but the mobile home installers told me they made a living at re-leveling doublewide homes frequently and that I did a very good thing for the long term.
