Did you put a thumb on your KB2485? If you did what kind? Still waiting for the call from the sales rep so no final price yet. I will ask about the loop hydraulic hose. KB2485 reads like a great unit, but th BH90-X with that curved boom looks like it could tear the World apart. From reads on the internet Woods also offers mechanical or hydraulic thumbs for the BH90-X size backhoe. Haven't made up my mind yet about BH but will post when I do.
Take the money you would spend on the backhoe and buy the cab version DK45. Unless you plan on digging a pool or something having a backhoe for use around your property is overkill. Mine just takes up space. I have used it maybe twice. I only bought it cuz it was part of the package (on a used DK45 cab tractor). You have to have some place to store that thing too

Fair point. If you don't really need a backhoe don't get one (or sell the one you don't use). Alternatives are to subcontract out occasional backhoe work or to rent a small excavator to do work yourself. However, sometimes the calculus really does work in favor of the backhoe. If you have limited time to work on a project it makes sense to have the backhoe handy rather than spend half a day renting and trailering a rental to and from your site. Professional excavators can be very cost effective but some projects don't allow the pro to do all the work at once and it gets real expensive to get a contractor to come back several times as you need him. Finally, the BH you buy can almost always be sold especially if it is a recognized brand. If I bought a Woods BH for 8000, did projects for two years until I no longer needed it and then sold it for 5000 I'm sure it would have worked out financially in my favor.

Meh, I'd take the cab over the BH any day if it was the same money. Obviously having both is the best option. I should think that with 30 large you can get it all as long as you get the shuttle shift and not HST.

mtr1950, my recommendation is work out an agreement with your dealer prior to the purchase that you are allowed to return the tractor at no cost to yourself if the problem occurs within 2 weeks. Get it in writing and the dealer agrees to pickup the tractor. The squeal started on my tractor within 10 hours of use. The dealer I purchase from refused the return. If I would have had the means I would have transported the tractor back to the dealer and demand my money back. There is no reason as the customer you should need to roll the dice.

Get a cab!

Some really good points of view. Have not put much thought into cab but will now, we get a good deal of rain here in my part of Washington State, but have never let wet weather keep me from going and doing, just dress for and get to it. Both kids have places with more land then us, one lives 3/4's of a mile away, other about 5 miles. Between the 3 place's we can put this to good use, we all have some digging, brushing, tree moving, field cutting to keep buttercups and stuff from taking over. This comes with a front end loader for the same 22,500 price, I don't think I mentioned that before. Island Tractor has me thinking about adding a grapple, more sooner then later, adding a Cab makes sense. I have covered room to keep all this stuff, barn area and a good size shop, both still with room. Like I mentioned earlier, this is my first tractor, not just me but for all of us, kids places included, I believe it will be a major impact on the way we all do things with our places. I'm looking forward to learning how to work this machine, and see just where it takes me. Sure do like the looks of both KB2485 & BH90-X.

KattyWumpus, Good advice I will push for the return if the squeal comes on, 2 weeks seems fair to ask for. Both of the kids have 10,000lb rated trailers, one is for hobby stock racing, other for getting hay for our horses. We all share our outside equipment, so getting this back to dealer would be no trouble. The cab makes sense, it all makes sense, just need to decide what to get and in what order.

I have used my KB2485 for a lot of earthwork, lately it been drainage work. It's held up well. Just make sure the dealer installs the frame right side-up, not upside down like mine did. See the picture link. Also get the return line fill port kit to use with the backhoe. Work with both backhoes. The only con I can think of is the KB2485 quick attach frame is large making it more of a challenge to storage then the BH90-X.

I can see the advantage of a cab, especially while mowing a pasture and for snow clearing, but it doesn't make sense for everyone. My dealer wanted me to get a cab when I got my DK35 as he had one on the lot and would have given me a great deal.

But much of my work is brush hogging and wood gathering on very narrow, hilly, and winding trails. By now (after 52 hrs) I'm sure I would have at least managed to rip off one of the mirrors.
