fogging helmet

I'm having issues fogging up the inside glass on my helmet. Aside from using a snorkel to breathe through, what's the best way to keep from fogging? I've tried ski mask wipes, warming the helmet up prior to use, not getting so excited about the great welds I'm laying down...

That was going to be my advise before I finished reading your post.

I used to have this problem from time to time but I don't seem to anymore. I am not fully sure what solved the problem. I know I have gone through a couple of helmets in the last few years.

Maybe try a different one that has better ventilation.

Or hold your breath! :confused2: Just kidding on that one. welding is all about balance not falling over due to lack of oxygen!

About the best thing I've found so far is a vinegar and water mixture. 3-parts water 1 part white vinegar. I spray the inside cover lens, (glass) let it set for a minute then wipe clean. Anymore I just hang my helmet in front of a little milk shed electric heater. When my eye glasses fog up I take a heat gun and wave it in front of my face. Fogging up glasses and helmet / hood is a PITA!

Yeah, I get tired of holding my breath. Now that it's warming up it's not so bad but I'd like to figure out a way to minimize it. I'll have to try the vinegar spray. I've also heard of using dishsoap?

i am using a "Hobby air" fresh air system under my hood. Its a 1/2 mask system that brings in outside air so i dont have to breath welding rod fumes. Mine has a 15" flex hose to an outside port, and 50 feet of hose for use inside the shop.

Since i use this, i no longer get any fogging on my helmet. Plus i dont worry about welding galvenized pipe, or 7018 rod, or anything. Also use when cutting with plasma cutter and/or painting. I got mine on ebay for under $200.

I think my health is worth that

When I was diving I used some spray, but I forget what it was.

The olde fashioned cure for motorcycle goggles was to wipe the inside of the glasses with a fresh cut potato - Yeah, THAT long ago (-:

Take a regular bar of soap and when dry rub over the lense then wipe dry i have used this on my bathroom mirror for years and it works great also rainx makes an anti fog spray or liquid good luck :thumbsup:

What kind of helmet? I can fog with the best of them but ive been having great luck with my miller BWE. The way it bumps out at the front moves it away from my mouth/nose area.

Im interested in hearing about any Off the shelf remedies though. Been wrote up more than once for not wearing safety glasses at work (fog/sweat too much) Ive tried the Uvex anti fog/cleaner that is at the safety glasses station to no avail. Rainx is better, but still not that great.

Yup, can identify with that. Haven't been written up, but been chewed on a couple times. Get upside down in the seatwell of a small helicopter and the sweat pools in those darn safety glasses. I yank'em off and either the supervisor or the safety officer magically appears at my side.
