oil question

Just like it says it lubes the bar and chain.Helps to prevent wear.

I will second what others said. It keeps teh chain flexible and from rusting and allows the lubrication of the drive links of chain, the sprocket on the saw and the bar and grove the cahin rides in to reduce wear and heat. It contains additives to make it tacky so it dosent sling off at the high speeds. Some buy "bar oil" labeled as such and im sure if we talk about this long enough you will get those that say you dont need "bar oil" just any oil new or used will do. This i will leave up to you, i personally would use new "bar oil" labeled as such, it costs around $10/gallon and unless you cut 10 cords of firewood a year a gallon will probly last your 2 years if not more. I cut firewood for heating my home partially and one gallon will last me about 18 months or so. I will leave the decision up to u like i said, i gues it boils down to your knowlege of repairs ability, how refined/new your saw is, is it under warrenty and or what your "dad did".
