I left the draw bar in my 1 1/4" hitch on my Villager one winter by mistake.

When I got around to trying to remove it, I could not get it out, even after I heated it, and pulled on it with a frame machine.

I just leave this in my receiver, let some idiot hit that.

The item posted in the OP is a piece of junk as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't make the slightest sense except to the gullible.

I have NEVER, repeat NEVER been tailgated while driving my truck and no one even parks near it. Know why? Take a look at the photo. Disregard the Savage 99 and look at the receiver plug. In addition to the plug, my license plate frame says: Endowment Life Member/ National Rifle Association. Don't get me wrong, I've had people come up on me while I'm driving. They close in, I see them look down read the plug and plate frame and next thing I know they are 6 car lengths behind me and that's where they stay. Has NEVER failed.

We had the same thing happen back in the late 90's with a Astro Van. Heat, a tree and chain, a Back Hoe, ect could not get it out. Hitch had to be replaced.

That would last a week here and it would be in some other guys hitch. I hate thief's.

The only thing left was top cut it open with a carbide disc, pop it out and weld the receiver back together.

I decided to leave it in.

I thought maybe you prop that rifle over the tailgate pointing backwards :)
Never thought you would get that much respect for having an NRA plug.

I don't think these get the respect they once did

I've seen people fight with those for hours.

I don't have a locking pin, but mine has a very difficult latch and is in a tight spot, would not be easy to steal.

I've got my pintle/ ball hitch set in as far as possible, doesn't stick out much. But people tend to stay a little further back from this wide load anyway.

Oh BTW made my last payment on this truck, just got the title in the mail last week :) Probably would not of spent that much money had I known the economy was ready to go down the toilet for those 4 years :(

I have cut no fewer than 10 of these things off and only one for a lost key. Rust and corrosion will do havoc to the lock assembly. Guess it depends on your road/snow conditions.

Chris

I made sure to get a stainless steel locking hitch pin for just that reason.

That would last a week here and it would be in some other guys hitch. I hate thief's.

When I use my Buyer's adjustable ball mount, it always gets the locking hitch pin. My hitch cover is so cheap, I just use a standard bent pin. If some dam fool wants a rusty chrome cap, so be it.

Since I live in Florida, I do not have to worry about snow and salt. I have had the same locking pin for the last 20 years - It has survived several vehicles.

JB4310: Probably more fear than respect. LOL. Nonetheless, I've never been aggravated by a tailgater so why question success.
