I accidently left my receiver in the car last winter, pin came out eventually, hitch rusted in place. Cherry red with the torch and 10 lb sledge chained to the ball got it out.

The item posted in the OP is a piece of junk as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't make the slightest sense except to the gullible.

I have NEVER, repeat NEVER been tailgated while driving my truck and no one even parks near it. Know why? Take a look at the photo. Disregard the Savage 99 and look at the receiver plug. In addition to the plug, my license plate frame says: Endowment Life Member/ National Rifle Association. Don't get me wrong, I've had people come up on me while I'm driving. They close in, I see them look down read the plug and plate frame and next thing I know they are 6 car lengths behind me and that's where they stay. Has NEVER failed.

I wonder if they have one that says Trigger Happy.

I made sure to get a stainless steel locking hitch pin for just that reason.

When I use my Buyer's adjustable ball mount, it always gets the locking hitch pin. My hitch cover is so cheap, I just use a standard bent pin. If some dam fool wants a rusty chrome cap, so be it.

I have cut off the stainless ones also. They are tough on a Sawz-All blade.

It may be a SS shank but the innards of the lock are brass, steel, and plastic. They will corrode also.

Another sorta funny thing to mess with tailgaters is to drift to the left of the lane, especially if it's the left-most lane. Tailgaters in cars behind a truck always like to drive just to the left of the truck so they can see ahead of it - or so I've noticed.
If you keep drifting left, pretty soon they realize they are off the road.

When I was a younger whooper-snapper, back in the 80's, with a 1986 Mustang GT 5-speed, when a tailgaiter dying to pass would be on my bumper, I'd let them start to pass me, & as soon as they were completely out in the passing lane, I'd downshift to 2nd or 3rd & punch it ... leaving them to be appeaing to be driving out in the passing lane for no good reason :D That was always very satisfying  What a juvenile I was

I had to look twice at your profile to make sure you weren't from Utah. That's a Utah trick. I hauled pigs in a stock trailer for a semester when I was in college in Provo. It was right during all the construction before the winter Olympics. I've come close to running guys off the road for pulling tricks like that. Not out of road rage, but out of necessity. I'd swear that there was some kind of statewide prize awarded every day for whoever got where they were going first. Everyone drove like it was some kind of competition.

I leave mine in all the time. Makes for a good step up and ensures my wife does lose the pin... again! Grrrrr!

Best way to get mine unstuck has been drive around town with a loaded trailer. Hitting every pot hole in the neighborhood helps too.

Here in north idaho...everyone leaves them on the truck all the time. One learns not to walk behind pickup trucks and suvs pretty fast up here.

Most everyone i know have locks on them and don't even know where the keys are .....

hay wait.....where is the key to mine???

I agree. But it's suprising to me how many people think they're doing something smart or cute by leaving it in the receiver in hopes of damaging someone else's vehicle IF they should be rear ended. Hopefully such people only damage their own shins.

I've only recently began taking mine out. Now it's on the tractor 99% of the time. Only took a couple of years to learn to walk around it. I left mine in as I was often moving one trailer or another around either at work or on the farm. It gets old real fast installing and pulling a 20# penal hitch several times a day.

I can testify that it does work for tailgaters though. I had a young lady drive it through the radiator of her boyfriends car years back.

That thing is hokey, plus from what I understand maybe illegal, as many states have laws against leaving inserts in the receiver.
Which I'm sure came from an insurance lobby, to reduce claim costs from otherwise less expensive fender benders.

That said my pintle/ball combo never comes out. Not that I hope to cause damage to someone's vehicle but mostly for convenience, but I admit I hope it encourages people to keep back a little.

I only bashed my own shin once, and man it did hurt :(

JB.

Yours must be similar to mine. They are solid.

When I have a tailgater I like to hit the manual slide bar on my brake controller. It lights up the brake lights and I have seen them lock up the brakes, spill drinks, about shat the pants they have on, and a few end up in the ditch. Serves them right.

Chris

Is that true for all brake controllers? I'm going to have to check that out. I never guessed it would control the brake lights.
