magnetic towing lights

hey now.. that's a way neat idea.. add a 4 pin to the back of the trailer... neat idea!
I think I'm doing that to both my trailers this weekend!!!

I did that on our Haywagons. I put in a cable with 4 pin flat connectors on both ends which is long enough to plug into the truck and reach to the back, then we plug the lights into that. I also added a 2 pin flat plug to connect a amber strobe. Then if towing with a truck you don't have to have the 4 ways on and can use your turn signals.

I like the ideas Qapla, JB4310 have about carrying a set of the HF lights around in the cab for emergencies, but I'm talking about a tractor useage and cab space is too small to be carrying a set in each tractor.
In the end, I ordered the more expensive set because they came with a case so they can be moved around in a more organized manner. They also have the built-in 7 pin tractor style plug already built into the system.
Might pick up the cheapies for the dumptruck, though.
Thanks for all the replies. Decent thread.

Just got the HF flyer and they have the 9.99 coupon, reg 29.

But they also have the same set up with LED lights for 29. reg 34.

I might go and try and con them into giving me the leds for 9.99 :D

It's worth a shot.

i for sure wouldn't have a set for each.. just a single set for the tow vehicle, and use where needed / as needed.

I use the mag lights because when I loan a trailer the lights never work when its returned. Wife says don't loan but I just can't say no when they help all the time.

A few months ago, a fellow told me a story that a man he knew loaned his trailer to someone. A part broke on the truck that was pulling the trailer that caused an accident. The man who owned the trailer was sued and ended up losing his farm because the fellow that borrowed the trailer didn't have anything.

The fellow that told me the story said he made it a point not to loan his trailer and if pressed to let someone use his trailer, he always took a check for the full value of the trailer in advance and said his story would be that the trailer had been sold if there was an accident. YMMV.

It's crazy that the HF magnetic light set is cheaper on sale at $9.99 than buying the wiring by itself. I've got a couple sets sitting in the package just in case I need the wiring.

I got a set today, they are what you'd expect for 10.
definitely would not be suitable for regular every day use IMO

No way the magnet will hold up to a strong wind let alone driving, so you need to come up with a way to secure them.

I got the LED version which is on sale for 29 in the flyer but they gave it to me for 9.99. same everything else except the leds instead of incandescent.

The leds are not as bright as the leds on my service body truck, but I don't know how they compare to the reg bulbs.

The width of the 2 lights is 6.5ft max, that's small for my trailers.

They do come with the splice clamps and a pig tailed 4 flat female.

one time a realative of a long time friend begged me to use my 16' trailer to haul a broke down vehicle home from another state.. i was a lil iffy on the deal. borrower had a cdl and had been driving trucks for years so that helped.. however I still made out a dated and signed bill of sale and told him if anything weird happend, he'd bought the trailer...

That is some solid thinking! I never even considered that. This is a great thread! Gained a little knowledge. I only let one friend of mine use my trailer. Hes a landscaper and has pulled more miles than anyone I know. And that's only been a handful of times. Usually just a backup incase his breaks down.

In the past I have loaned a trailer out to others and it never comes back he same. Bent fender, missing straps or chains. You name it. So no more. Causes some ill will. I was younger and didn't really realize how careless people can be when it's not their stuff. If I never hear " I didnt do that" I will be a happy man

I loaned my little utility trailer to a friend that was known for having trouble find him.

Got it back with 2 new tires :confused2: never got a straight answer what happened
