Messick's (New Holland Parts Lookup Online Catalog) says 4500 was manufactured 1/65-12/74.
The 4500 is basically a 4000 and has the numbers as a 4000.

If you are lucky there is still a readable tag on the underside of the hood, above the battery. At FORD CODES and SERIAL NUMBERS you find information on where to find numbers on other places and what they mean.

...manufactured 1/65-12/74.

That's only 10 years of manufacture, not even close to 4500 years.

:)

I like old tractors, but have seen only one model that old.

This may help you out

FORD CODES and SERIAL NUMBERS

Tractor model 45011G means:

4..........4000series
50.........inustrial version
1...........diesel
1..........No PTO
G..........Transmission code.

The "G" transmission code doesnt show up on ANYTHING I could find, but Dad has a 4500 TLB with that same trans code. It is a 4F/4R transmission.

There is a flat on the engine casting located just above the starter. It will have that 45011G model number. It will also have the date code where you can use the link I provided to tell exactally when it was made.

And yes, the hoes are quite large and powerful on them machines. As well as the loader. Do you know what model the BH is?? They made a 750, 753, and 755 attachment. They dug to 10ft, 13ft, and 15ft respectivly. ID'ing them is easy, measure the diameter of the main boom and dipperstic cylinders. The 750 had 3.5" cylinders, the 753-4" and the 755-4.5" cylinders.

And if it has the 740 loader on it, them had some massive cylinders as well.

So.....after all that, do you got any pics????

You have all the numbers you need on the tag (VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION PLATE), "UNIT" is the tractor production date code.

Your 4500 was assembled in the USA (Highland Park?) during day shift January 5th 1968.
