Title pretty much covers it. Will a BX2660 with a 3PH bale spear lift and move a round bale? I have no idea what they weigh.

thanks,
Ian

I'll just go ahead and say no...you need to move into the L series to deal with round bales, even the small ones.

I am guessing here, but I would say no. My reasoning:
Often the bale is way back there, so that will challenge the lift.
Also, unless on concrete, the BX will not clear the muck that results from cattle feeding.

I figured as much, but I thought I'd ask.

thanks,
Ian

Edit... went to that link. Didn't realize that round bales could weigh a ton. Had I known that, I wouldn't have asked the question.... LOL

As has been mentioned, round bales can weigh from 600# to 2000#. You also need a fair amount of vertical lift since they sit compressed on the bottom and a foot of lift may still have them dragging.

The other thread has my BX lifting a 4x4 round bale with the FEL. normally this is on the 3pt with a hay spike and I have 0 issues. I keep the FEL on for counter weight of the 3pt, and go slow and keep it on relatively smooth ground and it doesn't feel tippy at all. So in a word YES it can do it and you do not need to get an L series, but I would think of how often and how far you are going with a round bale on the tractor. I generally only need to about 400 or so feet from storage into the horse paddock and I am only doing this once every 2 weeks.

I have flat ground, and my kids use an RTV to help "move" them around the field.

That's the smallest bale I've ever saw. Bales around here would hold several of those!!!

For this OP he needs to clarify the size of bales he's using. The bales used here couldn't be carried with a B and an L would be looking for a little ballast on the front. :)
