Tractor
new holland
Hi,

i am using a new Holland tractor for a friend. What kind of power steering fluid does a NH tractor use?

It uses hydraulic oil the same as the transmission/reservoir, New Holland Multi-G 134A or equivalent available at many places including TSC and NAPA. Do not use automotive PS fluid or ATF. Almost any cheap hydraulic fluid is a better choice than the automotive products. In a pinch, you could use engine oil, but I wouldn't do that unless I had to do it to get the tractor out of the field.

Because it is not recommended by New Holland. It's a hydraulic pump and hydraulic cylinder so hydraulic fluid is the choice.

Your question reminds me of my oldest daughter who thought she was being smart when she ran out of gas and poured a bottle of fingernail polish remover into her gas tank to get going. Why not? It burns.

"Fingernail polish"......good thing it's not available in a 5-gallon container. So it begs the question what happened to your daughters engine, did it start?

as jinman stated.. NH specifies M2C134D or equivalent oil for the hyds, PS, front and rear axles, and final drives in most of it's machines. pretty much anywhwere OTHER than crankcase or dot # class style brake fluid resevoirs..

Her car soon developed severe carburetor problems. She's lucky there was enough gasoline in the engine to dilute the acetone in the polish remover. Otherwise, her engine would probably have exploded. Go figure.
