scan the truck to see what code is in it. You say the CEL came on at the same time as your problem? That might help you decide what direction to look, espescially if it is a vent valve code.

I got ya. I still have a feeling that when he left the truck someone tampered with it. Gas theft is a real problem around here and my gut says someone attempted to get him leaving something in the filler neck.

It turns out it was the vent valve. Service writer told me it was "full of dirt." I asked if it was a normal service item and he said no, but to let him check something. Then he said it would be covered under the emissions warranty.

Good deal. That is weird. I have had 3 Superduty diesels, my uncle has had 2 gas ones, and customers have dozens and I have never heard of anyone having the vent clogged.

Seen it on boats with mud-dobbers.
