They are all good little tractors. Just going by the specs, it looks to me like you get more tractor for your $ with the NH and Kubota models:
- Considerably more lift capacity on the 3pt... probably pretty useful based on what you say you'll be doing with it.
- More hydraulic capacity
- More HP
- Heavier tractor
- Wet disc brakes vs. dry type on the JD

I'd take your word that you just need a 4x2 for your work needs, but just would comment that 4x4 adds a lot of capability with these light tractors, so more people choose 4x4 and they hold their value better. Whether that's enough to justify the added upfront cost is up to you. Best of luck with your shopping.

You might save a few bucks by looking for a used 790. There were a lot of them sold and it's quite possible you can get MFWD and even a loader for the price of a base 3005 (which is the 790 renamed).
The 790 is a great CUT. Very simple and easy to maintain. It'll handle a 60" rotary cutter with no problems.
If you do go with a base tractor, you'll still want a dual-stage clutch...especially for the tilling.

Like Roy, I would be looking at some good used units if you are going no frills; lots of them out there for decent prices. I am tempted every now and then by a good used JD, MF, Ford etc. myself.

Gotta agree with Roy and TripleR.

You're money is better spent on a slightly used "grandpa needs to sell his tractor", or grandma wishes to sell it.

4x4 and FEL would be thrown in on a three year old model for the same price you're talking. Hate to say it, but with the economy, they are out there. Just gotta know when to hold, when to fold, and when to walk away. The wisdom of The Gambler.

but remember a new or used 2wd doesnt have much resale value anymore.ive found several real good deals on clean low hour 2wd drive tractors.the 4x4 tractors hold their resale value pretty high now.

That's why I would not buy a new 2WD, around here a used 2WD will get you your money back pretty much any time as the purchase price reflects the depreciation already.

I am sure it varies from one region to the next, so I can only talk about here, but we have 4 well used 2WD, we could get our money back or more.

I'd belatedly agree with the other guys. You can probably find a good used unit for what you want. If you're going to use a rotary tiller, try to find one with creeper gear or, even better, hydro drive. Those tillers want a really slow groundspeed and many straight gear tractors just don't go slow enough.

Reckon you've never been on a 790. First gear low range...well, I got in a race with snail once while in 1st, Low.
The snail won...
