Re: Backhoes aren\'t just for ditches

Strongbow,
This was quite a load for my BH. I looked up the specs and it appears that the 4672 BH has about 50% more digging force. The bucket is 1936lbs vs. 2950lbs. on the 4672. The crowd is 1137lbs. vs. 1740lbs. I looked closely at the BX22 before I bought. It really is a nice tractor, but I needed more ground clearance and I really liked the B7500 a little better for my use. I am sure that you could do the same thing with a BX22, but it would just be with shorter lengths of logs.

Terry (B7500)
I started out using my loader w/ toothbar and found it difficult to get under some logs and the lift was nowhere near as powerful as the BH. I added a "poor man's" carryall to my loader and that made it a pain to remove that every time I wanted to pick up a log. The BH also allows you to grip the log with the bucket and it's a lot easier to get under them.

Greg,
Thanks for the information. There are so many variables in tractor selection that all the help received is appreciated. I'm looking in the B7500 to B2910 range, and your experience with your B7500 added weight to that choice.

Re: Backhoes aren\'t just for ditches

I found a most interesting use for my backhoe on the BX22......peeling sod. With a deft touch on the controls you can stip sod off a pretty good sized area much more accurately and without as much drama or wheel-spinning as a front end loader.

Re: Backhoes aren\'t just for ditches

I've done the same thing with turf. It works great for that. We are landscaping an area that was lawn and you really can control the depth and amount of turf your get. I also had to remove about 4 inches of dirt, average about 2ft. wide all the way around our circular driveway (175ft). I would have had to do it with a shovel because of the small space, but I was able to do it easily with the BH. I am finding more and more "small" things that would have been a lot of manual work that the BH works great for.

Re: Backhoes aren\'t just for ditches

One of the first things I put on a hoe is a cutting edge on the teeth.
If u have some wore out teeth (or new) weld a ,1/2"x 6" x width of bucket, plate to them.
Only note is if outside teeth are on an angle u'll have to notch the outside of those teeth so it will come off.
If digging is tough put teeth back on.
This works great for scraping and lifting sod.
Also works good for grading an area that u can't fit tractor into or if compound angles.
I've got one on my big hoe's 2/3 yd bucket to dig basements and footers w/, the smooth flat surface makes working lots better.
