Price Check John Deere unbelievable trade-in offer

Sure the rebate made the deal workable without question. What I do not understand is WHY John Deere saw a need to do the deal?

Are they just so over priced that this is possible? Are they setting on a lot of inventory? I know they were doing the same deal last year per another post in Canada.

Actually, the reason I was asking the OP if he knew what the asking price of his old tractor was so that if someone on here was interested in buying a slightly used , basically new tractor, seeing the asking price might actually get more interest. Personally, if I,m looking to buy something, I find it frustrating when someone posts an add, and doesn,t include the asking price. I just figure it is either priced to high, and the person is embarrased to state it, or they are hoping the buyer doesn,t have a clue, and will offer some crazy high price for it. But that,s just me, I,m sure many others are different. Have a great day, and I hope the OP has many great years with his new tractor.

When I grow up, I wanna be just like Diamondpilot (except I'd have to drive a Ford)

Thats right, drive a Ford. Dodges and Chebys you usually end up pushing or they are towed in by what, Fords. Lol...

Back on topic. I am done having fun.

Not patting my self on the back here. Its just business. I put together deals like this all the time on boats and trailers. Lets be honest here, its just business.

Mark up the new ones then offer rebates. The high price of a new one will draw people towards good used ones. Make good deals on the new ones to get traded on the used ones. I used to do this every 12-18 months on trucks but am now content with keeping my old ones. There were quite a few times I drove off the lot with twice the truck for the same money if the rebates were in place.

My guess on his used one is the dealer will sell it for about the same money they could let a new one leave the lot for.

I just love the fact that so many thought this was a scam. Yes, there are plenty of scams out there but this was not rocket science. $1000 a year depreciation on his 3 year old tractor was about right.

Sorry but your take on this doesn't really add up. Putting that aside for now, I purchased a B26 in July of last year. About 2 months later I decided I wanted to upgrade. My machine had 15 hrs on it and the dealer said I would have to take a 20% loss if I traded it in. 15 hrs of use would have cost about $8000. So much for Kubota having great resale value.

No matter how you figure it, this guy traded in a 3 yr old tractor for a brand new one, and it only cost him $500 and change. There is no doubt in my mind what I will be buying next. I realize a deal like this doesn't come around too often, but it certainly says something about JD resale value.

its common to lose 20% of a tractors value as soon as you haul it off the lot.some dealers might help you not lose that much on a quick trade in.

ONE way to figure it would be to understand whether or not he had paid FULL MSRP 3 years ago.
If so (ignoring for the moment that he got TAKEN at that time) then yes, it was a good deal THIS year to pay $500 - add that to the $2500 "free money" that was made available due to.... we don't QUITE know why, but can speculate.
Yeah, maybe it WAS a good deal.
Seems like $3K off list.

OK, back to what he paid 3 years ago.
ANYTHING under MSRP adds to what he "effectively" paid this time.
If $1 sub list 3 years ago - he effectively paid $501 this year.
$50 under $550, etc.

What it says about JD resale value is questionable.
What it says about what they have to do to move new ones is a LOT more relevant.
Taken as given "the current economic climate", etc.

Carl the 20% loss makes total sense. Why would the Kubota dealer pay you more for your 15 hour used tractor as he could get a brand new one for?

The driving off the lot depreciation is post factory price mark up.

OP gave 1 lightly used JD 2520 tractor, a used mid-mount mower, a used back blade, $500 cash out of his pocket & $2,500 cash that JD gave him to entice him to purchase a new 2520.

In return he received a new JD 2520 tractor, a new mid-mount mower & a new back blade.

It could be said that he paid $3,000 for brand new versions of what he already had, but since JD gave him $2,500 of it, we know he only paid $500.

Heck, I might be willing to do such a deal even if all $3,000 had to come out of my pocket.
