Well, now for the trials and tribulations of getting a new tractor. I used the new unit to move some trailers around the barn and mow my yard today. I now have 2.5 hours on it. Yesterday I spent some time looking it all over. The salesman said they had a mechanic intern install the deck so I figured I should look that over close. None of the deck mounting hardware bolts were tight, some just hanging loose, he failed to install several cotter pins and washers, he removed the screws that "hold" the mid PTO shaft cover in place. Problem with the shaft cover is you remove it by turning it 1/4 turn not by removing the screws. After removing the screws the seal retainer cover plate is also unbolted so he just left that hanging on the shaft. He must have run the deck before delivery and the shaft chewed up the cover as it rattled around on the shaft. I called the dealer and the salesman and a tech came out within hours and fixed everything including installing a new cover. The only thing wrong related to the tractor is the parking brake light works intermittently. So I imagine the machine will go back to the shop for that soon. The deck works fine now. My first two JD CUTs never went back for anything other than the lift arm replacement on the 2520. All in all I really like the machine. As compared to my 2008 machine I'd swear the hydro is smoother, the engine makes less noise, and it seems to travel faster in high range than my old one. The manual is still a piece of crap. It's exactly the same as my old manual, same ommissions and mistakes. There is still no mention of what the light is in the upper right dash that comes on when you turn on the key. All the tech could tell me by looking is it's either a glow plug light or a preheat light. Problem is they are used differently and not all machines are the same on how you use them. I have yet to find anyone who knows for sure exactly what this light is and how the machine should be started to make use of this feature. The Tech was going to look it up for me but haven't heard yet. After looking this machine over very thoroughly I continue to be impressed with how JD builds machines. They have thought of almost every detail and don't skimp on things that are important. There are a miriad of details that one would not notice unless you really look it over. To be fair, I've never owned anything except green so I can't compare in detail to other designs but I've spent enough time in the showrooms that I have seen some huge differences in how machines are built. Given the quality of these machines I tend to be willing to overlook the few small flaws because nobody can get everything perfect. This is a very well designed machine. I'd love to spend some time with other brands just to see how they call compare.
