My dad woke up to the police at the door one morning...Our mailbox had been smashed (along with a few others in the township)...It was no big loss because the wooden box was rotting and the post was screwed together after getting hit by a plow...Put up a new one and never had a problem since...

Oh, and it was also mentioned in the paper...:D

Now that's a good idea!! Although prob somewhat unsightly. An ar-teest might be able to make it look decent, though.

Have one built out of plate steel. Put a trail camera on it and let the fun begin!

My dad put this up 25 years ago, still standing... Diverted the culprits to another easier target, or they moved on for all the reasons. Have been asked a few times by the postal carrier to swap it out for a breakaway style but I've not just gotten around to it... It also stops the Township from bowling it over with snow burden as we are on the end of the road... It goes down 4ft as I recall with concrete filled steel so even if I wanted it out it would be a project.

I see he left a little bit of mailbox sticking above the steel ... just to tempt the perps

One of my former neighbors has flat plate on the top of his mailbox post that fits snugly up into the recess in the bottom of a standard metal mailbox. He sticks his mailbox out on his post when he leaves for work in the mornings, and takes it back inside when he gets home in the evening. He lives on the corner of two dirt roads and decided it was just simpler to do this than replace his box regularly.

Get some superglue and shotshell primers, glue the whole box of em to the outside and you will give "Babe Ruth" a wakeup next swing.

Could get a box at the post office.

Lovethesmellofdiesel, does the township takes down any of their light poles or street signs to keep people from hitting them?
