well....shoot. I just read this whole thread........and still no checkerboard doors :D Great job BTW!

Hizoot,
I am tickled you wanna see the checkboard. Just yesterday, I priced the red siding for the door and enough siding to finish the back wall. Please send $385.56 to me. Just kidding. The red is more expensive:( that any other color Mueller has, but it comes with a 30 year warranty on fading.:)

I have a side job pending to dig up 9 stumps. I will be able to buy the siding then and install. Believe me, I am ready to install it.

I am toying with the idea of installing 24 inch white squares. I can buy the white siding in 2 foot lengths, but will have to trim them down from 36 inches wide to 24 inches wide for the pattern. At first I thought of going with 36 inch squares, but now think it will be 24 inch squares. What do you think?
hugs, Brandi

What size are your doors going to be?

I personally think 24" would look good....but it does depend on the size doors. If its say...15' ,then 36" might look better, since its a multiple .

With those dimensions, three foot squares with a six to 8 inch boarder make a lot of sense. Cutting it also means that the edge will be rough, sharp and prone to rust.

Eddie,
Three foot squares would be easier and just screw on. But I am wondering if 2 foot squares will show more impact with more squares. Guess I need to draw a scale drawing and decide.
I hadn't thought of the edges rusting. I have cut plenty of the siding with snips and an abrasive wheel in the skil saw, but always hide it under another panel. With the panels being 39 inches wide, I have to stuff one edge of the white under a red panel anyway. I have red border trim that wraps around the 2x6 anyway, so the border will be red. Thanks.:)

For your size of door, the 2' squares would be the way to get the look you want.

Okay Y'all,
I spent the evening drawing crude:eek: scale drawings for 2 foot and 3 foot square door checkerboards. They are below, along with the real Purina logo.

After I started laying out the 3 foot squares, I realized all I want is a version of the Purina Checkerboard Logo without the white border inside of the red square border.

What do Y'all think? Just use the Purina logo without the white "framing" border on 3 foot squares...............centered on the door?:confused::confused:

Remember, it is all in the details.
hugs, Brandi

I like the bigger squares. The smaller ones make it all too busy. And I think the larger squares have more "punch" just cause they are bigger. You said before you have red trim for around the edges. That would go well also ....and maybe keep you out of trouble with Purina. not that they would care I'm sure ...just sayin'.
