My pole barn...a solo affair

For anyone who has never met Bindian, in person, she is a sweet young lady who will work circles around most men everyday of the week but Sunday. Self reliant is a very good description.

So what did you ever do with all those cedar posts, young lady?

After I "picked";) the posts up at your place last year, I was off work all summer on an OJI with shoulder surgery in the fall, then had bunion and hammer toe surgery in the winter. I am back full throttle now:D and will plant those "free" posts real soon. Thanks again!

How are Y'all fairing in the drought?
hugs, Brandi

We are making it. Thanks for asking.
The rain that fell in May, 7.3 inches, equaled the total amount that fell in the months of Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar and Apr. It is so dry, snakes leave a dust plume when they move around.

July 2nd I broke down and hired out a concrete contractor. Seems my circle of friends really shrunk when I mentioned pouring it myself with their help. I know it would be hard work, so I paid the piper.

Photo 1....Booger found out the hard way about wet concrete. The screeding hadn't been finished before he stepped into the "ooze".

Photo 2.......I was assured by the contractor the slope at the doorway would clear my marked pencil line on the white corner trim for the sliding door. That didn't happen as one end was too thick when it was sloped to shallow.:(

Photo 3......The contractor came back out and cut down the threshold concrete for door clearance. I kinda blame myself for not marking BOTH sides of the door frame.

Photo 4..........Last Sunday I bought a pneumatic framing nailer:cool: for my birthday present to myself and started on the entry door frame.

Photo 5..........shows the concrete threshold after the contractor fixed the mistake.:)

Photo 6............The concrete really brightens up the barn and makes the floor space appear larger.:licking:
hugs, Brandi

Nice! Brandi, I ALWAYS leave concrete to professionals. They know every step and just how to go about doing things. When it comes to concrete, I can do a large part of the excavation with my equipment and then I figure my job is sitting in the shade watching and keeping my checkbook handy so I can pay them for doin' a good job.

Congrats on your concrete.

I agree with Jim, that it's best to let the pro's do the concrete. Its one of those things that once you've screwed it up, you will always wish you had spent the money. LOL

Jim and Eddie,
Thanks. I helped pour sidewalks while working for the school district during my high school summers. But we had a bunch of strappin' guys around to haul concrete in wheelbarrows. I handled shoveling and spreading, along with enough screeding to know it is hard work in itself.
