Oh, I wish I could find it now. A college buddy sends me goofy pictures all the time and one of them was a picture of a woman who weighed about 300 pounds on a moped and she DID have her helmet on backwards!!! I laughed until I cried, especially when I saw the two giant McDonald's bags she was carrying with her! :laughing:

It could happen.....

LOL!! Sorry to be off subject for a moment, but you just described my brother in law. He refuses to wear a seatbelt in a car because he says he'd rather "be throwed free" of the wreck. (In my state, the driver gets a citation if passengers are not wearing seatbelts so he wears one in my car or doesn't ride with me). Anyway, he works in the HVAC business and 'the old guy' who trained him taught him how to find gas leaks using a lighter. :eek: Yeah, he burned someone's home down and was nearly killed before he changed his mind on that one. I have to wonder if some of his injuries weren't from the homeowners beating him for burning down their home!

He must've had the same mentor as the guy who came into she shop I used to work in with more than a few coolant leaks because "My uncle told me to use spring water, because have you ever seen a spring freeze in the winter?"

It was at that point i realized I am a selfish individual..... I no longer wanted to share oxygen with this person.

As for being thrown clear, two episodes while I was a first responder come to mind. One was rescuing a classmate who drove over an embankment and rolled her Cavalier. The car stop on it's side, with the top of her window pinning her to the ground by her badly bent, but uninjured, neck. The only thing saving her life that day was a small elm about 2" in diameter. Worse was watching her break down when she realized how close she came to dying.

Number two was another firefighter and myself picking up a drivers teeth from the freshly falling snow because he found out the hard way that if you're going to fight with your girlfriend, take off driving like an idiot on icy roads, lose it and launch a T-roof Iroc off a road embankment and then barrel roll it, you may want a seatbelt on the second tumble. That was the last domestic dispute he ever had.

And the back of his helmet broke his neck...I'm not saying he should or shouldn't have worn one. Once again, you're arguing the device. They can be good in some situations and bad in others.

A near head on collision with a concrete wall @ 200 mph killed him. Sterling Marlins bumper turned Dale Sr, not his helmet. Poor choice in wearing an outdated helmet contributed to the injuries, but was NOT the cause. NASCAR had their hand forced in making new rules that dictate drivers wearing proper safety gear from that point forward, like the new rules or not.

Deliberate misinterpretation of facts, misrepresenting of facts, and misquoting of facts isn't a valid argument, but rather rationalization BEFORE the fact.....

I merely laid out the criteria for someone displaying their stupidity. The choice to meet that criteria head first WITHOUT a helmet is yours.

wow, this thread is on fire. The helmet argument always draws a lot of strong oppinions. The most entertaining posts are the ones that argue that helmets dont protect you. I dont have any problem with anyone choosing to increase there risk of seriuos injury or death but please save the arguments that it is safer or as safe.

Care for the indigent used to be done by the charities, now the gov't figured out that they can make themselves cushy livings doleing out taxpayer money doing it. The problem is in the principle, it's not a legitimate function of the gov't.

Your posting and your signature seem to be at odds with each other, at least in my feeble mind.:confused:

Freedom is taking the responsibility to do what is right and/or necessary with out anyone having to tell you! Don't wear a seatbelt or a helmet because it's the law, wear them because it is the right thing to do!:2cents:
