We live on the edge of a small (10 home - 3-5 Acre) subdivision. Corn fields just beyond our property line.

At least one neighbor has a cat that they let roam wild. Don't know whether it is "fixed" or not.

Suddenly we've become "over run" by feral cats. There's at least 5 or 6 of them and the number seems to be growing.

Anyone have a solution to reducing/eliminating feral cats?

The city animal services is one of my accounts and I'm in tune to some of the animal over population issues. Many people feel that taking an unwanted cat to the pound is a death sentance, and could very well be. So instead they will "dump" them in a subdivision thinking that they might have a chance at finding a home. Unlikely.

Have a few feral cats around, we only see them once in awhile. Had a nice black cat come to our door about 2 months ago. Very friendly and was obviously someones house pet. Had to take it to the local SPCA, hopefully it does find a home. About a month ago caught a guy that was just going to release  a raccoon he had live trapped. Told him it was a private road and property and also my chickens didn't want any more raccoons around. I waited till he left with the raccoon. Happens all to often, animals get dumped out in the country side. :)

You probably made it dig it's own grave before you shot it? :ashamed:

Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking about the cat in the picture.

The alleged true story about one contractor I know is a bank was ready to repo his dozer and he buried it to keep them from getting it.

Can be difficult to tell if they are true feral cats or domestic cats that have been dumped and going wild. A true feral cat may be next to impossible to tame, and that's why some rescue groups say to trap, neuter and release them back to where they came from because they can't make house pets out of them.

A domestic cat that has been dumped might be rehabilitated in time. Lots of times, they have issues with internal parasites that can take forever to clear up.

The best cat I ever had started out as the wildest cat I ever had until she became tame.

I don't understand 'spay and release' of cats. As was pointed out, they are an exotic, invasive species. FL already has a lot of trouble with those. They have a program here where they spend umpteen dollars capturing, spaying, and releasing feral cats. Why? Couldn't those resources be better used helping, I dunno, feral HUMANS?
