Well, regardless of what you decide, even if you decide NOT to buy, I would like to see you test a comprabally equipped RAM. Maybe even Mega cab if the back seat is important.

It is just good to see real un-biased evaluations of these trucks from someone that isnt so brand loyal:thumbsup:

I am a dodge man at heart, but I dont consider myself brand loyal either. I buy what I want, what I like, and what I can afford, regardless of who puts their name on it.

I am always amazed about how people will try to point out all the things wrong with your dodge and tell you that you should have bought a ford. It tell you that your chevy is junk, you shoud have got a dodge.

Fact is, they all have problems, and ALL need up-keep. They are mechanical, and things break.

But I am really looking forward to hear your thoughts on the New dodge trucks. I have an 05 diesel, and my parents have an 05 hemi. They bought theirs new and love it:thumbsup: The only negative is the gas mileage.

I recently bought a new F150 and wanted to pay for it outright. It was at a place that advertised a "No Haggle" price and indeed the price was lower than I had been able to negotiate with other dealers. When they brought out the paperwork for me to sign it was $1,000 more than what was on the windshield. I immediatly refused to sign. They became upset and explained that their advertised price included the $1,000 rebate for financing through Ford Credit. I argued, that if that was the case, that the windshield price should clearly state so. happy.

What options did you get?

Edit: ok I saw where you got the trailer controller and running boards.

I say this on all these threads but forget the 3/4 ton and go for a 1 ton SRW. They sell more 1 ton SRW trucks around here now days than 3/4 tons because guys have figured this out. GM was late to the game but 08 and later its been the case.......
In the Ford line-up its about $600 difference between a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton SRW. Also be aware there are nearly 15 different GVWR packages with Ford SRW trucks form 8,800# to 11,500# so while it may look like your buddies truck it can be way more or way less. I will only buy F-350 SRW 4x4's with 11,500# packages from now on. They ride the same and handle so much better with a load when compared to the lighter sprung trucks.

is there a big difference in insurance cost?

Not really sure but will tell you my F-250 Diesel and my F-350 Diesel are identical but 2 years apart. F-250 is a 04 while the F-350 is a 06 and its about $5 difference per month if I remember right. I pay every 6 months so that is a guess, but very close.

As for load handling my boat weighs 15,600# It will drop the 04 F-250 with 10,000# GVWR about 8" I dropped the 05 Dmax 3500 SRW with 9,900# GVWR about 6" and my 06 F-350 SRW with 11,500# GVWR drops maybe 2" tops. No comparison to the F-250 or the 3500 Dmax.

Is it just me or does it seem like all the 3/4 tons squat a good bit with any decent load on them? I know my F250s did.

Seems that way to me. The trucks keep getting heavier but the GVWR packages stay the same.

I use a tape measure to measure the sag to know when I have my load balanced.

When I bought my 09 f150 I had to finance with Ford to get the thousand off. I did it and paid Ford off a few days later. This was not an option when my wife bought a new Ford Explorer a couple months back.
Do you mean it was not an option to get the $1000 off, or not an option to pay it off a few days later?

I know they built them for awhile but what I was saying was my local Ford and Dodge dealers stocked more SRW 1 tons then they did 3/4 tons or Duallys because that is what guys want around here. GM dealers locally took a while to catch up but now I am seeing more 1 ton SRW trucks from them also.

Chris
I guess it depends on location and/or individual dealer. When I bought my 2000 GM the dealer told me he only stocked 3500 SRW's because they had a full floating rear while the 2500's at the time did not. I think the MGVW then was 9200. I later purchased a 2008 GM 3500 and the MGVW was up to 9900. The current model SRW 3500 is 10,700 GVW for the regular cab and up to 11,000 for the extended and crew cabs. Now the same salesman tells me farmers and commercial SRW buyers are going back to the 2500 because 3500's require DOT registration; this is in NY.

There was a brief period around the mid-2000's when GM and Dodge didn't offer SRW 3500's, only duallys, so for that time frame you wouldn't have been seeing them.

I have been buying SRW 1 tons since 1999. I got stupid for awhile and bought a 2500 Dodge because I wanted a Hemi and then a F-250 Diesel before I went back to the SRW 1 tons.

Not sure what years GM and Dodge did or did not make them. I have owned both but am a Ford guy, 90% of what I buy is Ford.

As for what I know guys have I have a 06 F-350 SRW with 11,500# GVWR and my neighbor has a 07 GM 3500 SRW with 9,900# GVWR. Guy across the street has a 05 Dodge 3500 SRW, not sure of it specs. There are only 12 or so house on my street and better than 7 SRW 1 Ton trucks currently with 2 being Dodge, 4 being Ford, and one GM. All Diesel other than 1 F-350 being a V-10 Gas. Only one Dually, a GM 3500 and one 3/4 ton being a older gas Ford with a 460. There are also about 10 1/2 tons. My Titan, a bunch of F-150's, 2GM's, 3 Toyotas, and 2 Dodges.
