Towing Question??

That means every 5th wheel camper out there must stop and get loaded. I pull 18,000# plus all over the place and never stopped at a scale one single time. Never been chased down either.

ditto that.. I've had my 14k rated gooseneck all over florida, georgia, mississippi, lousiana, alabama and texas. I never stop at scales, and have never been chased down.

Fuel was hand calculated. I was impressed with the fuel mileage for my Cummins. I was able to borrow a 5 ton trailer from a trailer owner in Petersburg who let me use one that had been returned for a larger trailer. Probably saved my friend about $750.00 to get truck to tranny shop.

I bet you could pick up that trailer with the truck strapped down, turn it upside down and it still wouldn't move. Certainly tied down well! :thumbsup:

You should have removed the forks and turned the forklift sideways when loading. Most forklifts used in wharehouses will fit and it keeps them from rolling either forward or backwards. Too late, but maybe for next time. Your trailer didn't have E tracks? Another way is to use a strap (I have stopped and bought one) anchored on the back bumper and run into the trailer (doubled) and secured a moveable object. Close the doors on the strap.

As for the guys tires blowing, what brand? Carlisie and Goodyear Marathons are pure junk in my opinion. I had had both just blow for no reason. Now only sell and use Maxxis, Greenballs, and Hercules.

My 2006 F-350 SRW 4x4 short bed extended back with a diesel weighs 7,600# with me in it and 3/4 tank of fuel. I have no tool box or anything in the bed and maybe 30# of tools under the rear seat.

Todays update, towed truck to Baltimore, MD. Left Disputanta, VA (below Petersburg, VA) at 3:30am this morning, arrived in MD at about 8:30am. Took our time (55-60 mph), stopped a few times to check straps and chain. Stopped once for breakfast. Not one issue at all, the Cummins performed flawless. Only downshifted two times for entire trip. Towed over 10,000 lbs today and I was impressed. I borrowed a larger trailer (5 ton) to make this trip. I have some pictures attached of the way we strapped trailer to truck. Private owner trailers don't have to stop at weight stations.
By the way got 13.39 mpg for entire trip, loaded up and emply trailer on return.

I'm glad you found a different trailer. I'm also glad you made it there with no problems.
I have seen times where the DOT pulls over pickups that appear to be overloaded. I've also seen them escorted to the scales by a DOT officer.

And as you stated earlier.....It's all about safety:thumbsup:

down here we like to refer to it as revenue enforcement. and heck.. if it happens to promote a lil safety while they drain your wallet.. it's a side effect they are willing to work with...
