Just wondering if you have ever been hit by your own debit while on your brush hog? I have seen things fly forward of me while cutting heavy material and have heard loud smacks to the rubber guard. I am considering installing a metal screen into the roll bar as added protection.

Luckly ive never been hit with anything while mowing. Adding the screen sounds like a good idea.

Growing up on a Ford 600 and no guards or seat back, it was not uncommon to get hit by debris. On our Massey Ferguson 375 something would occasionally hit the seat back. I use to see screens such as expanded metal on tractors fairly regularly, but now mostly not due to chains and higher operator platforms.

I only run cab tractors now.

I get hit all the time. Never anything dangerous, but I still don't like it.

Almost - was cutting from our field edges into the woods, backing in. Had the deck slightly raised with the side skids about 2 or 3 inches off the ground. Went over something in the leaves - a small limb I think. A fist sized chunk smacked off the angled roots of a tree next to the tractor and whizzed by my ear so close I swear it took some ear-hair with it. I started wearing my saw helmet when I cut brush near trees. Would have prevented loosing my eyeglasses to a low limb if I had been wearing it then. Hind sight = 20-20.

I have never been hit by anything.

But I did have a peice of metal fence go through my rear tire sidewall one:mad: fortunatally, that was before I had them filled.

I plan to cut some chain link fence into two panels - one each for the two sections of my folding ROPS. Will heavy duty zip tie to the ROPS. Was going to do this for chain/rope recoil when pulling logs.

When I first got my Woods Brushbull, years back, I got all sorts of stuff flying forward on day one of use, mostly dust and dirt. I looked at the setup that evening and realized the dealer had the baffle installed on the back instead of the front. The manual CLEARLY stated that for a non-cab tractor the baffle should be installed on the front. Took an hour to move it but no problem since. The safety chains on both front and back do their job but the baffle is there for its purpose as well. I would think if you had safety chains they would stop the heavy stuff and the dust/dirt would be the only issue.
Take a look and see if your unit has a baffle and where it is installed. Also ensure you have safety chains on front and back.

Anything that comes flying at me, I simply catch it, Keanu Reeves style in The Matrix, & throw it back at nature

OK, OK. A few things have come close to hitting me, but somehow have just squeaked by. Usually enough to make me say, "Whoa, that was close" but not actually do anything to prevent it from happening. Apparently I'll have to lose an eye first ;) <-- Lost eye :confused3:
