Sounds like the steering cylinder may be by passing.

I agree. Just wondering if its normal or not? Maybe like a pop off valve on a turbo? There is a lot of weight on the front axle (steering issue has seemed worse since adding my grapple, which weighs about twice as much as my bucket). Maybe its designed to by pass fluid at a certain PSI to reduce the risk of damage to tires and front axle when turning the wheels back and forth and not moving??

Its not designed to by pass. There are o-rings and seals inside the cylinder that sometimes break or my have been torn from the installation. If it is still under warranty then i would take it back to the dealer and have them check it out.

I have had mine be hard to steer at a dead stop. Once I start moving its easy again. I have ran cranes, lulls, and backhoes that have all done it at one time or another.

Tried mine parked on concrete at idle speed and wheels turned freely both ways.

You do not have a problem. All hydraulic systems have to have a pressure relief valve, if not a hose would burst or the pump or something else would have to break when you turned the steering to the far right or left. If you were to put enough weight on the front of a car it would do the same. Your problem is the extra weight of the grapple. My MF 1250 will do the same if the bucket is half loaded and on hard soil.

Thanks for explaining that. I called my dealer and he told me exactly the same thing.

That is great news. Since we do not have a loader, or front mount anything, I was not sure if it was normal or not.

Thanks.

Yes, thanks. My 1635 will do the same thing once in awhile with a full bucket. Good to hear that it is normal.
