My brush with TSA

/ My brush with TSA #71
A week ago I was flying from Phoenix to Los Angeles and the TSA guard asked me to step aside to inspect my computer bag. I let him know I was rather annoyed.
Then he asked me if I owned a firearm. He shocked me a bit, but I stammered that I did but I locked it up that morning before leaving the house. Then he asked me what goes with the firearm? Oh crap, I had a fully loaded magazine buried in my bag, with 7 rounds of .45 hollow point!
I usually take my computer with me when I go to the Ranch on the weekends and I sometimes slip the firearm and mags into my computer bag. Next was major grilling by several TSA people and then the PHX PD showed up. I thought I was going downtown, but instead the sargent asked me if I wanted to take it out to the car. I couldn't believe it. He said that it was from a Sig and I obviously knew good firearms. When I said that I didn't have time to go to the car, he said he would hold it for me down at the station and I could get it when I came back. I just got back last night, so I'm going to go down and get it tomorrow morning.
They sure did have me sweating for awhile! :ashamed:

They should have stripped you down and done a full body cavity search.:2cents:

Regarding the original post, if you were told you could pick up your magazine on your return from the police dept but not the bullets, why not just let them take the bullets and keep the magazine originally? Is it against the rules to have an empty magazine in your carry on? I don't recall if that could be considered a weapon...

That's a good question. I never thought of that. I don't think I want to try taking on an empty mag just to find out though.

You can get a TSA app that gives you a list of what not to havve in your possesion, it can change do to new things showing up as a threat.

same here.. a while back I got stopped turning from a 55mph road to a 20mph road, and guess i was still doing a lil over 20 when straightened out from the turn..

first thing LEO asked me was if i had my weapon on me.. which I did.. he asked what it was ( sig p230 ), he acted interested and said he liked sigs.. sounded like he wanted to see it.. so i asked if he would like to inspect it.. handed it over in holseter after firt removing magazine and clearing chamber 2x.. he looked it over, we talked, he handed it back after about 5 minutes of gun talk, and said he was giving me a warning and be carefull..e tc.

I fully believe my ccw saved me on that one... at least in that situation where the LEO was interested in guns.. etc..

Most, if not all are. It's a 'tool of the trade' so to speak.....

Our friend who is a DEA agent likes Glock's and discusses their merits and shortcoming's often. Personally, I view a Glock as a clunky carry gun.

Considering the recent, renewed interest in 1911 style semi-auto's (just about every firearm manufacturer offers one now), I believe my Kimber would be a good conversation (piece).:D

I's still like a Wilson but the price of admission is too high considering that the lower is generically related to a Kimber, amongst others.

i'm not a glock guy either.. I like my sig p230.. but it's a large frame 380.. my carry gun of choice after that was a keltec p32.. but that was anemic.. i upgraded to the p38t which I love.. small and prints square with an inside the pocket holster.. and carries enough ammo to get you out of a sticky situation hopefully..

When our department authorized Glocks for our duty weapon, I was very disappointed as I am a Sig fan among others. I had owned a Glock 19 for many years, but never warmed to it and my wife wound up with it. Having carried Glocks for many years, I became a convert. They are very tough, reliable guns that just about anyone with even a little skill can rebuild/repair.

My wife and I now own five. I must admit though that they are ugly and clunky. To me they are nothing more than utilitarian tools and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. For pride of ownership, I love my Sigs, Colts, Beretta 92 Elite II, S&W 29, 629 Classic, Model 41 etc.

For something light weight that will take a lot of use and abuse/neglect and still go bang every time it is hard to beat a Glock.

As my asbestos underwear are being repaired, I will avoid the whole 1911 discussion.

Since my retirement, I only wear a belt to funerals and weddings, so my carry gun is now a S&W 638 with Crimson Trace grips in my pants pocket.

Probably a wise thing in as much as everyone is on the bandwagon now. The post would digress to an oil thread like consistency in short order.....

I have a Colt 1911 Government stamped model in the case, never fired, as an investment, like all my firearms actually. My preference is long guns, the pistols just come along with the others. I've always been attracted to the Kimber, I appreciate the machining and care that goes into the build and it's domestic. My boss has a Sig and like the Glock, it's clunky too. It's a 9 however. Might as well pop a 22lr as a 9. I have tons of 9 brass in bags, 45's and everything else. I like to reload.

Far as a belt goes, I always wear one. My drawers go south without one. I have no arse so there is nothing to wedge the pants on and incidentially, why I like the AR seat in the M. No arse to cushion the bumps. Must be a hereditary thing. My dad is minus as well, so was grandpa.

My pocket gun is a Bond 45LC/410. I never cared much for the little pop guns. I figure if I'm accosted in a wonderful place like Detroit, just peering down the hole of a 45 is deterrent enough. Especially, seeing the end of a red plastic personal defense 410 shell in one hole.....

That scenario is something I constantly dread. I prefer to avoid problems at all times.

The Kimber is a full size with CT laser and it's not light. It is, with the .22 conversion and that's how I usually shoot it, indoors on the range. It becomes a fun, lightweight plinker and accurate too.

I get more enjoyment from the long guns than a pistol. I lkke substance and caressing a beautifully carved stock.
