Bought a flat tooth bar from Iowa Farms, it was drop shipped from W. R. Long. I got a 58.5", cost me $340 delivered. It arrived earlier than promised in good shape. Here's how I installed.

Set the bucket so the bottom of the existing cutting edge was level. Then moved toothbar until bottom of it's cutting edge was level and clamped it in place. (first photo)

Traced slot on toothbar using felt tip pen, then took the toothbar off. Debated mounting bolt in the front or back edge of the slot, called WR Long for guidance. They said the bolt should go in the back edge of the slot, that it was not designed to be pulled forward and folded back in the bucket. Drilled the hole with 3/4" hole saw, note the spray bottle of used motor oil. Sprayed that on while I'm drilling, went through in about a minute. (second photo)

Toothbar was about 1/8" narrower than bucket width, shimmed one side of the toothbar with a washer. I thought it would be better to do this rather than bending that bracket out which might make it hard to remove and install. This way the bar is always 1/8" smaller than the bucket. (third photo). The other side is bolted flush against the inside face of the bucket (fourth photo).

Haven't used it yet, will try it out this weekend. Need to dig out an area to add an asphalt apron to the drive.

Im glad you mentioned the mounting question and got an answer. It seems quite a few people here believe the slot is purposely made to flip it back in the bucket, when in actuallity its to alow adjustment to keep the bar tight against the bucket lip as the cutting edge wears when the tooth bar is not in use. Enjoy the new toy ahem.. Tool!

I was thinking about a tooth bar a while back but decided against it for the cost factor. Later I bought a used plow for the garden and thought that if I need to dig, I could plow the area and then scoop up the loose soil. Repeat as necessary. Of course that requires enough space to get the plow in the ground.

Your installation went exactly as mine did! I asked the same question about the slot. It comes off very easily if you need it off without having to "flip" it up. I needed to at one spacer washer on each side of mine.

You will LOVE it!

Ian,

Once you get one, the "cost factor" goes out the window! The benefits far outway the cost.
