How does anyone EVER finally decide which tractor to buy?

Every day without a tractor is a day too long  Buy one and live with it, short comings and all. Just enjoy it. The grass is not always greener on the other side, it just looks that way. My boss over ****-lize everything to the point he never gets anything done... Make up your mind and Git-R-dun... :D:thumbsup:

I have posted this before but:

If you can pick a tractor with:

1. Just the right horsepower, no more no less.
2. Just the right weight, no more no less.
3. Just the right loader/backhoe performance, no more no less.
4. Just the right tires.
5. Just the right transmission for ALL of your needs.
6. Just the right price, no more; don't worry about the "less" part, won't
happen.
7. Just the right size; not too big and not too small, just right.

If you can do all this and more that you aspire to in your tractor selection, you can retire from your present job and become a very successful tractor consultant.

I tried for years to find just the right one tractor and finally gave up and bought another.

If you don't you will just probably spend the money on food and rent anyway.:)

For me, there has never been a perfect, one-size-fits-all tractor. That's why I have three of them.

Yep, we have three primary tractors too; BX2660, L5030 HSTC and M8540 HDC. We have several others, but they are on other properties.

Now if only I could afford just one more...:licking:

So, you are close to the goal of only one more? Sounds good..

I suspect that choosing the right tractor can be difficult for a newbie who is looking for the perfect 8 in 1 tool. I know I haven't seen it yet. I personally never thought that a tractor small enough to mow the lawn is large enough for ground engagement of consequence. Picking something in between that is 25 to 35 hp is too heavy for lawns and too light for dirt work imo.

I have to transport my equipment frequently, usually to small jobsites so compact sized equipment works well for me. At the same time I don't want to have to take a backhoe or loader off to mow or use a landscape rake. So I find it easier to have a tlb for the small dirt jobs, a compact tractor without fel for 3pt work and the smaller garden tractor for close work and mowing.

For most people with a variety of jobs I think having a good dedicated mower either a ztr or conventional rider for the lawn and a larger compact tractor for the ground engagement tasks is a good way to go. Depending on the property size the tractor chosen may need to be much larger.

Ditto on the dedicated mower..... get the big guy...or ONE OF THE BIG GUY's...to move stuff....

I'll have to get back with you on that.

Actually the open station tractors I have used for many, many years are now pretty useless to me due to health issues and they are all now at another farm, so I would kind of like something along the lines of a L3540, but I could use the money for a B3000 for mowing yards pond levies etc. or for an F3080 or cabbed RUV for "very important farm work" or...see where this is going.

About a year ago I decided I had enough guns, but have bought two more since then.

It's not that difficult. Just make a decision and live with it...

You got that right. Yeah, for the money the RTV costs, I don't think I will ever own one either. I have a Rhino so I can get around in the woods and hunt, so it will have to do.
