BX23 Question about the hydraulic lines to the backhoe

When you remove the backhoe you have two hydraulic lines on the tractor.
One is male one is female.
Is there any reason not to connect them together to keep the dirt out ?

I'm talking about the ones on the tractor, not the backhoe.

I somehow think bad things will happen.

As far as i know you should.

Yikes, it says that right in the Operator's Manual.
I must have misread it.

As far as i know you should.

Not only "should", but MUST! If you don't connect them the hydraulic fluid will not have a return path to the sump and the system will go into relief.

Does that mean that when the backhoe controls are in neutral that the hydraulic fluid passes straight through also ?

it has nothing to do with keeping dirt out. it needs to kept in constant connection thru BH OR loop hose. You have what you call power beyond system. It doesnt matter if you are using the hydraulics controls or not, the hydraulics fluid is moving all the time while engine is running. not connecting the hose will just let the fluid flow through the relief bypass and that is not good. Its not the same as deadheading the hydraulics, but it can have same diastrous results with constant high pressure bypassing which is over 1600-2000psi bypassing.

Ask yourself- do you want 1600-2000psi bypassing all the time and hearing the squeal of reliefs kicking in? fluid bypassing in a unnormal place sure will increase the heat temps of hydraulic fluid and its the same fluid your HST is using too. (shudder)

YES this I found out when I had an issue with a PB coupler! nothing worked right.

and I know I said should but I realize that was an understatement but was not sure on the technical reason!
